Looking forward to hunting some Muleys, it’s been a while. Anyone on here have success last year?
-
Great tag going to be a blast.
-
They all moved out.!! :chuckle:
Good luck. I can’t even get that with 14 points
-
rifle, or archery? Last year I watched two rifle hunters drive right past two shooters..... :yike: :yike: I had an archery tag and couldn't close the distance on a couple monsters. If you have the rifle tag, you should have a good hunt.

Good job on draw. Even with 50 pts....odds are still below 1% !
Savor it!
-
Remind me next fall will share honey hole.
-
My dad drew the rifle tag with 7 points. I’ll be helping him out, we are wet side hunters so it will be great to hunt some muleys in the rut. I’ve never set foot in that unit.. but we are going to give it hell and hope for snow

Magnum thanks I def won’t forget!!!

I drew it as well with 17 pts. Looking forward to it

If you get snow, make sure you are prepared to chain all 4. :twocents:

Congrats guys...I did this hunt 2 years ago and it was one of the most enjoyable and fun hunts I've done in many decades of hunting. Enjoy what will undoubtedly be a special time looking over many bucks.
-
Awesome, congrats

Don’t be afraid to look around this summer and find canyons that have no roads
-
I’ll be up there a couple times to get familiar. Anybody with suggestions would be appreciated.

Good luck. Should be a fun hunt

I drew the archery tag with 14 points. Looking forward to doing some summer scouting looking for roadless draws. Any other advice would be appreciated.

Helped people with tags the last two years. Awesome country to hunt! Glassed up a ton of deer and covered a lot of ground. Passed a lot of bucks, but unfortunately we were unable to turn up any monsters. Both tag holders killed solid four point bucks. But not the kind of buck you're looking for with a tag like that. I hope you are able to find the kind of buck worthy of the tag, they are definitely in there. Get to know the road system this summer and have some glassing spots picked out. Make sure you have a good 4WD it gets nasty when its wet or you get some snow and there are some steep and rocky areas. Also, make sure you're in shape. The bucks are on the move that time of year and like to be down away from the roads dogging does in the bottoms.
Hoping to get in there a third year in a row with @opdinkslayer and find a stud! Come on fall!

Ya buddy hopefully you get a chance to join us & dig up a good one! 8)

Did you draw archery or rifle? I'm planning to get up there a few times this summer for learning the road system. Would definitely like to hook up and help each other out.

Make sure you have good tires and chains for all 4 those roads can get sketchy with just rain.

Don't get hung up on killing a monster, it can ruin what can otherwise be an awesome experience. You will see some deer standing in the open, you will see far more if you glass, glass, glass. A buddy and I had the late archery in '07, we started glassing at sunup. We got flagged down by a couple of guys in another rig late morning that said they hadn't seen a single deer! We literally didn't have the heart to tell them we'd seen 35 bucks between the two of us, from spikes to decent 4-points, with spotting scopes and window mounts just glassing from the truck.
There are less deer now than then, but enjoy the experience of hunting migratory mule deer on winter range during the rut, with very few other hunters.

:yeah:
Well said! I was up there last year for late archery and had just an amazing hunt and experience. Good luck this year!

Rifle tag

I'm definitely looking to have a great hunt. I'm not stuck on killing a monster, just a good solid heavy buck. I want to look over as much as I can and see lots of deer. I'm very excited to have drawn this tag.

Would love to see some pics of Entiat bucks from past tag holders if your willing to share.

In 4 days saw five really nice bucks - a 27” wide three point, a narrow but dark tall heavy horned 5 point, and 3 symetrical dandy four points. None would break the 160-165 mark but dandys. Ended up running out of time and took a smaller buck than these but great hunt.
One of the nicest bucks seen was in my scope by accident and too startled to shoot. Far West corner of unit in the snow everything had moved down and we hadn’t seen even tracks so at noon decided to try shooting at a rock in a clearcut to make sure Lapua was still dialed in. Prone on edge of trail was looking thru scope adjusting parralax and huge 4 pt steps over the rock I was focusing on. Billion to one chance It happened - so quick and he was gone before I could shoot.

Nice!

Thanks guys & keep them coming. Starting to get the impression that these big ol Washington cascade bucks may not score well but can be very impressive none the less.
Gonna be over that way in 3 weeks on a family vacation at Sun Lakes so me & my 3 boys will take a run through the unit to get familiar with it a bit. Any suggestions of areas to look at for camping & finding deer in November would be appreciated.

Judging by the forehead & nose on that buck magnum, he was an old mature buck. The big buck incident sounds like something that would happen to me! :chuckle: :bash:

Lots of good camping up mud Creek, I'd check that area out.
