Title: Chiwawa Quality Rifle and Sinhlahekin Buck ARGH
Post by: FishBio31 on June 10, 2020, 10:08:58 PM
Got lucky and not so lucky and drew both Chiwawa Quality Rifle for mule deer and Sinhlahekin Whitetail buck tags with some family members. 14 pts for the quality and 5 for the buck. We are gonna eat the buck tags. Already asked fish and wildlife if we could give the tags to the next people in line, nope. Real bummer, hate to see those tags not utilized.

Anyway, looking forward to the late Chiwawa mule deer hunt. Thinking sometime around Nov 10 til the end of the season. Seen some dandies from others posted on the board, hope I can get lucky and do the same. Will have fun regardless of outcome.

Congrats on the tag!

A broken system that WDFW seems to ignore and would be super easy to fix. You are atleast the 7th person I ve heard draw 2 tags. I did the same last year! complete BS!

Congrats, will be interesting to see if the stats show those tags “filled” when the report is published.

I love BOTH of those hunts. Sinlahekin is awesome; but hard to pass up the pigs up Chiwawa.

Chiwawa all the way, I wouldn’t waste my time in sinlahekan if I had the chiwawa tag. But I don’t really care about white tails so... that’s a good problem to have.

:yeah: I don't see why there can't be a runners up call list for this very reason?

Congrats on your draw!

Once I got to like 12 points I just ghost pointed buck deer. I figured that would happen.

I’ve been saying for some time now we should have a system like idaho to prevent this. Maybe now people will start to realize how many tags could be going to others if we were only able to put in for one category at a time, not to mention odds would go up across the board and you would be drawing a quality tag every 3-5 years instead of every 15!

Yes, dump the Buck tags. It’s a fun hunt but IMO nothing compared to your Quality tag. Best wishes for a great hunt!

Had it happen to me with elk tags before . Does anyone honestly know why they don't make a change to the system ?

I have 21 quality and 18 buck.... I’d take a free t shirt at this point.

Chiwawa is a great tag! Had it myself a couple years ago. I was fortunate enough to get a great buck but with out snow it was slim picking. The buck I ended up getting was a buck I passed on the first day of my hunt and regretted it everyday for 6 days after that. I thought I was going to see a ton of giants and that was far from the reality of that hunt but don't get me wrong we saw a ton of smaller 4's and 3 pointers and a giant two point which could have notched my tag on several times. All in all it was a great time, pray for mild summer with no wildfires so they don't close half the unit down like they did the year I had it and pray for snow to get the migration to move the deer down. I wish you the best of luck!

Just curious how far away was that buck you saw on the first day when you finally pulled the trigger on him?

I have the late Chiwawa archery tag dec 1-8.  Honestly,  I'm not sure why I used it as my second choice, but apparently Entiat was tagged out by the time my name was selected.  Either way, I'm glad to head west to check out some new area. Hoping to see some mature bucks.  How do you guys feel about the timing of this hunt? Do deer migrate to the lower parts of the unit and stay, or do they typically keep moving into the Entait? Seems like I should be hoping for late snows while the rifle hunters hope for early.

Congrats!  I drew both bull elk and antlerless elk one year.
