Title: Glock 36 questions
Post by: slowhand on June 20, 2020, 04:54:05 PM
Co worker is looking to sell Me his Glock 36 in 45 acp for $300, comes with all sorts of accessories. case, extra mags, +1 mag extentions, fancy sights, all original mags and box, custom trigger installed. He says the 36 doesn't get much love and has a rough rep. He's offered to pay the ffl fees so I'm looking at a strait $300 cash. I have never owned a Glock so I got no clue if it's a turd or a great gun with a bad rep. I don't care about looks (Glocks are ugly), I just need it to go bang when I pull the trigger, and be decent out to 20 yards give or take. I love 45 acp it's a great caliber. Looking for opinions and if it's worth the cost. please let Me know what You think good or bad.
I plan to use it as a replacement for My 9mm Kel-tec PF9 I carry now. I don't carry often. Mostly while hiking, during out of town travel, and I like to have something while bow/muzzle loader hunting.
Thanks so much to all that chime in.

That's a very good deal used to own one sold it for $550.  They are great carry guns but not that fun at the range. They have substantial kick since it is such a small pistol.  If you pass tell your friend I'll buy it. They are a subcompact single stack pistol max capacity is seven with a extension if I remember correctly.

Oh and they are far from a turd. I think the bad rap comes from low capacity and lots of kick for a 45 acp. The single stack makes it one of the best concealed carry guns there is.  My daily now is a S&W 38 or a Glock 42

They may get a bad rep from people limp-wristing.  Without a firm, strong grip, the flip can cause FTE, as I recall.

That is a TERRIBLE DEAL!!

I would definitely not buy it if I were you.

But being the generous guy I am, I will go ahead and take it for $300 so you don''t get stuck with it.

OK, I think it's kind of a steal.
Never shot a 36, but have shot many other  GLocks and I really like them.

If you decide for any reason you don't want it, please send him my way.

Hand shake deal completed. Should be meeting up at the FFL this next week.
I have a concealed carry permit. Will I be able to take it home after paperwork? On will it need to stay for a few days. I’m planning to go shooting and scouting Saturday. Sure would like to try it out.
I’ll report back how I like it.
Thanks to all that gave input. You guys are great help as always.

Heck of a deal

I shoot the 29 which isn't that different in size.

I would suggest getting the +1 extension at the glock store. Then get the ghost trigger.

Your friend will want it back

Haha
I comes with two extra mags that have the +1 added to them plus the original two mags.
It has an aftermarket trigger installed not sure of the brand. I will look into the ghost  trigger. Hope it already has it installed.

I got a new pistol last week and got it after 3 days.

I will report back on the time it takes before I get to take it home and what FFL We use.
I thought with a concealed carry license it was a shorter process? but laws for guns are changing so much it's so hard to follow.
I miss the days when You handed over cash and it was now Yours.

That was repealed. It's minimum 3 days now for concealed carry holders but it sounds like some FFLs do 10 for everyone.

For semi-auto rifles it is 10 days.

:yeah:

I-1639 changed the former (and a whole host of other things).  I-594 changed the latter.

Things get really bizarre when you consider (until WA gets its process in place, July, I think), I walked out of an FFL with an AR lower, same day, and yet, I had to wait the I-1639 period for a TC Encore pistol lower, you know, those scary single shot TC Encores, just like the gangstas use.

Update
Payed my coworker and just waiting for the green light to come pick it up.
Gun is with the FFL
I asked how long, they said possible two weeks due to the volume of gun purchases. We will call you is the time line.
Gun looks great 4 mags total is awesome.
Picked up 300 rounds of 45acp. Why because they had it, lol
Ammo of every kind is hard to find right now.

"Ammo of every kind is hard to find right now."

It's nuts. Purchases of firearms are off the charts.

Great deal, I own one and paid $470 for mine. It is very accurate and a great pistol. For $300 that's a steal.

That's a great deal as others have mentioned... I don't like Glocks at all when compared to a 1911, but have a 40 MOS, picked up a 20 2 weeks ago, and just received my 43 today...why because exactly what you mentioned earlier, when you pull the trigger they fire, super reliable.... Been told 10 days to 2 weeks on last 3 handguns.... longest was 7 days.... You got a good deal coming from a non Glock fan that is looking for his next :-)

Picked it up on the 16th so that made 14 days from the FFL drop off date.
Can't wait to take it out and run a box of rounds threw it.
Looking to get a box of buffalo bore hard cast rounds for in the woods protection. Not for plinking.
Anyone have experience with these rounds? they seem legit and the counter guys at Ben's loan had nothing bad to say about them other than they are sold out. haha
Tore it down to check it out since it's My first Glock. Super simple take down and looks like there are very few parts to the gun. Seller sure used a lot of oil. Way more than I would ever use. I tried to remove as much as I could using q tips and paper towels. I hope this isn't a sign of a problem trying to be covered with excessive oil?
I love the size with the +1 mag, I don't like the feel at all with the standard mag. Feels way to short in your hand with them.
one more question. All My other auto hand guns the mag will pop out with a bit of spring force. This one the mags just kind of drop out with gravity? You almost want to pull it out with your off hand? Is that correct? It doesn't feel right?
Thanks as always boy. Your input is appreciated.

Buffalo Bore hard cast has a sterling reputation.
I've never been attacked by a grizzly, but they say it is top notch stuff.   As with any ammo, be sure to run enough through it to make sure it functions flawlessly.

As for lots of oil. ...  LOL
Seems like people like to douse their pistols in oil.  A good cleaning is all it needs, I bet.   There are some excellent youtube videos for how to properly lube a glock.

My glock doesn't really eject a mag, either.   It's pretty much a gravity dump.

Enjoy that thing.   I still wish youd have passed him on to me.   ;)

Every Glock that comes to me for service is grossly lubed and it sounds like yours is no different.

If your a Glock mags don’t fall right out, there’s something wrong with either your mags, gun, or both.

That's what I was afraid of. Poo

It's recommended not to shoot hard cast out of factory Glock barrels. I shoot Grizzy 185 grain plus P ammo out of my Glock 36 for woods defense. I average 1150 FPS. There is a you tube video on it. Honestly it isn't too snappy either.

Take a look at this. I'm not arguing. Just what I found about the concerns you have.

https://www.buffalobore.com/index.php?l=product_list&c=59#:~:text=Ever%20since%20Glock%20Corporation%20warned%20to%20not%20use,untrue.%20Hard%20cast%20bullets%20are%20not%20%22lead%22%20bullets.

I'm open to further conversation on the issue.
Also I should be out Saturday scouting and trying out this new firearm. Not with hard cast just standard Winchester full jacketed.

Interesting read, however I will side on the companies warning to not use hard cast in there stock barrels myself. After all they are the ones who designed and built the firearm. Best of luck with whatever ammo you decide to use.
