I just couldn't let this project die, so I brought it back for one last try. The configuration of the gun is the same:
- 25" barrel
- ARC Nucleus action
- HS Precision stock
The scoped weight of the rifle is 9# 2oz, so it's a manageable hunting weight. This was the final attempt to turn this dumpster fire of a project into something useful, and I think I actually got it done this time. The winning combo was a 140gr Sierra Gamechanger and Reloader 33 for a velocity of 3560 fps. This is an average group out of the 6 that I shot at 250 yards today. Some were better, some were worse, but they were all under .75 MOA. This is good enough for a 9# gun shot off of shooting sticks.

I rarely say it, but this gun almost needs a muzzlebrake. The recoil is very fast and snappy, but manageable. The 140 Gamechanger wasn't my first choice for a bullet, but I'm sure it will kill stuff just fine. I don't think I'd want to hit a deer in the shoulder at 50 yards with this load though! :chuckle:

Prairie dog gun? Glad it finally worked out

New barrel, and I had a no name smith do the metal work for me. No big surprise, but it turned out better than a lot of other work I've paid too much for. :chuckle:

Now that it's actually shooting well, I'm going to use it as my primary hunting rifle this year. I shot it at 540 yards over the weekend and all of the groups were under 3" when shot off of a bipod, so I'd call it good to go. I still might try and find a tougher bullet that shoots well though. I have concerns about the Gamechangers holding up with a high velocity impact.

How about you give us a picture of this Boondoogle that you speak of?

The Boondoogle is on the left with a 338/375 Ruger in the middle and a 6.5 Grendel on the right.

I go away for a little bit and this is what I come back to......... :chuckle:
I found a second load that's working well too. The new load is a 156gr Hammer Hunter at 3405 fps with groups hovering around .5 MOA.
