I'm pumped, black bear is my favorite animal to hunt. I will be on vacation hunting bear from August 1st-11th up in The N.E. corner looking for bear #5.

I will be headed north a bit to 113 on Friday for a 4 day weekend. Hoping to get my first bear. The wife and I hunted them quite a bit last summer but never did see one. So hopefully this year is the year!

Fellow west side bear hunter.  I like it and with the Muzzy at that.  Im gonna hunt with the 7mm Mag for at least the first bear.  I think we are hiking in and spending the weekend.  I was in this weekend checking cams and ended up way too close for comfort to a bear (estimated 7 feet).

Now that is a good lead!

Gonna be warm so make sure you have a plan to cool the meat. Wear eye and mouth protection when chopping it up. You can get trichinosis from a drop of blood.

:yeah:  Fixed it for you.  They aren't even forecasting temp for other than to say record breakers in NE.   Stay hydrated and good luck.

When everything is closed but the woods, we tend to find ourselves in them more :)

Will be out with my brother for the first 4 days and then I am on my own. Hopefully I can call one in for him before he heads home. Picking my 2nd tag up in case I run across the issue of shooting the boar or the sow. Then all I will have to worry about is shooting the first one that gives me an opportunity and then try for the second. Hopefully there are some pictures of some slobs hitting the ground this weekend

Going up scouting w my dad tomorrow.  Tantalizingly close to the 1st but won't actually be able to get out for real until the second weekend.  Hoping successes this year put last year's missed opportunities in the rear view mirror.  It's been too long since I've had bear sausage in the freezer!

I’ll be out in 121.  Leaving tonight after work.  Don’t forget your bear I’d tests if hunting areas that require it.   Spot and stalk during cooler hours and calling deep in the creek bottoms during the heat.   Good luck to everyone

I've been working in Eburg for the last week and scouted up in 335.  I saw 3 bears on the first evening and 1 the next, two of them were cinnamon color.  Might have to get the extra tag this season.  Never scouted for bears until this year.

Does Sportsmans Wharehouse or Bi Mart have any good bear calls?  Thanks and good luck out there!

How did it hurt?
Well it hurt the freezer and the reason I didn't get one is because I lost one.  First one I have ever not had drop in their tracks.  Not my best moment and three of us searched for him until 2 AM and then hunted the same area for the next week trying to find him.

I know that feeling well and it's not a feeling I'd like to repeat.  Got a different rifle setup I feel a lot more comfortable with and have been doing a lot more shooting than normal for that very reason.  Let's turn it around this season!  Good luck all.

Well saw 1 at 9am on the opener. Ran into the timber after 10 mins, just enough time for me to realize that my path down to the bottom was way too steep.

Proud dad for sure. She just turned 9. I just bought her this CVA Cascade In 6.5 creedmoor. Put the brake on and away she goes. She has been practicing with a savage axis in .243. But this is much nicer.

Haha, message me and I'll give you guys my wife's number for where she got her boots. I've just been waiting till it gets closer to deer to buy her a real pair. She's growing so fast. She drew a Mason deer tag this year and I don't think these will be warm enough. I saw that @D-Rock425was looking for a youth rifle. I am very pleased with this cascade. Adjustable lop, 2 swivel studs, threaded barrel, cerekote barrel, nice camo pattern all for 519$. My only concern is I found 1 mushroomed 120 grain round that didn't penetrate much into the muscle in the shoulder. Worried that if she hits an Elk off target I'm going to be tracking a ways. We'll see I guess.

You ever been in the 437 at all?

Man, I haven't hunted south of the river in a loooooong time.  Used to be good deer, bear, and grouse up Finney/Cumberland.  Back in the late 1990's and early 2000's there was a serious decline in game in that GMU for some reason.  Lots of active logging back then.  Might be decent hunting now.  It's been at least 20 years since I've been up there.  Stumbled upon a great place to sight in rifles one time up there.  Doubt if it's still there though.

We struck out on opening weekend in 418.  Saw one, but unable to get a shot.  :(
