Was looking for stuff to do in Helena MT while my wife is at a bridal shower this weekend. A sporting goods store had a link to a bear test and this one has some debate... Figured I'd ask the experts here :IBCOOL:
I got 100% on the WA bear test... this particular bear, not so much
-
Black bear, 100%.
-
To me it looks like a Grizz.
-
I would say black bear also, although there are a couple features that look Grizzly like.
-
Blackie, shoot him.
-
Whatever the heck he/she/it wants to be. Who are you to judge? Maybe it wants to identify as a turtle.
-
I was heavy on grizz, but they pointed out the non-dished face. That with the light white chevron on the chest and no hump... that's a BIG BLACKIE!!! Those claws look pretty darn long, until you look at grizz claws.
edit: I mean turtle, vandeman17!

In all seriousness I would have said black bear

Black Bear
-
The top pic looks like there's a hump to me so I said Grizz, maybe it's an illusion.
-
Brown-black bear. :chuckle:
-
Biiiiiig Blackie
-
Black bear, and a nice one :chuckle:
-
Pull the trigger!
-
Black Bear
-
You're all wrong, it's a brown bear....don't you see it (well, its brown), or, a turtle... I would have to ask it first about the turtle identity.. no sense in assuming anything. Yes, its a black bear, pretty obvious to me.
-
Big black bear
-
Blackie
-
Easy to mistake but blak.
-
That there is a stump-leg AKA bench-leg bear. Grizz Blackie cross. I have seen several here in Wash..even in my back yard. Commonly called Blackizzly. And that is no lie.....
-
Ursus americanus
-
I'm not the best at these but the face looks to pointy to be a brown bear.
-
Black bear but I'm probably not shooting it based on those pics. Too close, id bet a side profile clears it up some though.
-
Bear of color.
-
Black bear. I didn't get 100% on the bear test. Like others, the nose doesn't look dished at all. Great looking bear for sure though.
-
Ursus americanus
:yeah:
100%
Not Ursus Arctors Horribilis
:)
-
oso negro
-
oso negro
Si Senior 8)
-
Black bear the face and ears are to long and pointed
-
Black bear.
Pointy ears, hair isn't grizzled.
-
Dont say black any longer. It is a "bear of color"
-

Don't rely on the hump as an identifying feature. All bears have shoulder blades that have the potential to protrude up looking like the hump you'd see on a grizzly.
-
Totally a grizzly bear. You know where he is at, I have never seen one and have some spare time Aug 1st. :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
Here's your hump...Grizz mom with grizz cubs??? or are they the legendary bench leg Blackizzly ?? You make the call
-

Most definitely polar/panda cross ,and I got 100% on the bear test.
-
Black bear.

Well damn...I believe that is a black bear though.
-
Compared to some pictures online...it sure looks like its possibly a grizz. That would be an absolute giant for a black bear...if you have to question what it is then probably shouldnt shoot it.
-
I believe that is a color phase black bear
-
Ears too close together and no dished face. It’s a shooter black bear 100%
-
I agree it's a blackizzy bear which means it is not a Grizzly. :twocents:
A coywolf is not a wolf and a grey squirrel that lives on the west side is not a Grey squirrel. :twocents:
A black tail deer on the east side is a mule deer and not a black tail deer. :twocents: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
