Thoughts... If you had the tag?
-
4 More years.
-
4 more years *censored*... haven’t seen anything much older than this one my guess is between 7-9 years old?
-
He still has his lamb tips maybe 6 and a half years old :dunno:
-
Better?
-
What a fun hunt.
-
Decent ram for the unit. With high accessibility and generous tags, bugs and tribal pressure it’s been awhile since I’ve seen much for size.
-
Got a front view pic of the first one? The second one looks like he carries some more mass than the other but is lacking in length overall. Both are good looking rams though.
-
Beautiful rams.
I love that first pic.

That’s a 158-160 class ram as bone said above about average for the unit.

I am going back down this weekend will post some more soon, thanks for all the input I have onX if any one wants to drop me some pins of places to look 5098444256.
I haven’t seen anything that has made my jaw drop... Would be happy with either of these rams though.
-
For that unit its a shooter, odds of finding something bigger are slim.
-
Mid to upper 150’s :twocents:
-
Thought you guys would like this
-
.
-
.
-
Nice
-
.
you better shoot that ram
-
the solo one on the bottom of page one . upper 150s for that unit .
-
The way things are going there’s a chance a bunch of this unit is gonna burn.
-
Yep...
Guessing they will restrict access from the back side. Witch was my mane plan...
Hoping the sheep don’t cross the river...
Only time will tell
-
Best of luck with your hunt! I hope all works out for you! F 2020!
-
:yeah:

We saw a couple real nice rams right above the dam last year while hunting the juvi tag

Can you cross the dam? Any one have contact info or is it just open?

You can't cross the dam, but if you have a boat there's access there.
You can also rent boats from Red's in the canyon. I'm not sure how that would work, but might be worth looking into.
-
How deep is it from the Roza boat launch to the Roza dam?
-
Not exactly sure on depth but we used to water ski that section.

not true, you can cross the dam. Not the tracks. Technicality its illegal to cross the tracks anywhere on the river

Hmmmm
My plan is to hunt from the top if the rams are up near the top but I’m not sure if we will have access with the fire.

My cousin shot a buck towards the top once but we took it down to the damn, took a canoe across just above the dam, loaded him up and rowed back across. Its plenty deep also.
-
Always one rule breaker in the bunch. It was a good workout lugging it back up the hill :chuckle:
-
There are a handful of spots below the dam you can just wade across after the flip flop happens too
-
Well this is where we are for now.

Good times!
-
We crossed the dam last year with no issues🤷🏻♂️

I'll be in the canyon Monday through Wednesday next week, I'll let you know if I see anything.
-
Is the Wenas Recreational Area / BLM land open in the canyon on the east side of the river?

Thanks hope they are still in there.

I not sure you would have to call blm.
I know all dnr is closed not sure about blm.
-
My buddy that had south central raffle last year drew Clemans ram this year and just got the e mail today that they are opening most of his area Monday at 6:30 and that his season is extended till October 31st. Miss of your area is blm and wildlife area, you should be good
-
My hunt opens on the 15th but dnr lands are closed until the 17th
-
.
-
Well there isn’t to much to this story I went down Thursday when DNR said access to there land would open on Friday the 18th.
-
We spotted two rams Thursday before dark but it was hard to see with the smoke.
-
This rain should help kick down alot of the smoke.
-
When we got up Friday morning the air quality was better so we drove to the glassing spot, we saw two rams and 25 ewes and eventually found the rams we were looking for there were 8 rams feeding a little past midway up the canyon so we made a plan to drive around and come at them form above.
When we got to the top we glassed down at them and could see they had bedded down on one of the small fingers
It was time to go.
-
The darker rams are the more mature ones
-
Any word on how the sheep fared in the northern part of the unit? I drove through on Friday and it looked pretty ugly. Son has the youth tag.
-
We got in above the rams... the rangefinder read 361 yards so I set up for the shot.
-
I debated on weather or not to shoot him in his bed and decided it was doable. A 15lbs rifle Shooting 300gr bullets tends to inspire a lot of confidence... not your normal sheep gun 😅
One shot and he rolled maybe ten feet out of his bed.
-
As he lay.
-
.
-
In the picture of the rams which ram did you shoot?
-
.
-
Here he is
-
They aged him at 8.5 years old
-
I wanna play the game so I am guessing it was this one(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200924/80900a6ce18693f2c623e8510ac9aad7.jpg)

I am not sure we looked for sheep around Umtanum ridge but didn’t see them in the normal spots.
