Title: Think im looking for something. Maybe someone?
Post by: Betrayingfate on August 23, 2020, 12:31:49 AM
I've been hunting for the most part of 5 years and sadly, have not had the grand opportunity to get a catch. Recently, I've moved between the nooksack(gmu 418) and the sauk(gmu 437) units. I'm thinking I need a guidance of where to go, or someone who would like to explore the area near or far in washington state.
Im an archery hunter and would enjoy the company about.

Silver Arrow Bowmen is a great archery Club and range.  IMO  Byod Iversons Blacktail Trophy tactics 2 is the best read out there. Its out of print but can be had used. Preseason scouting is good but just after season is best. I have scouted with a pair of hand limbers to make trail  travel easy. Good Luck and shoot straight

I just bought a signed copy of Blacktail Hunting Tactic 2 from one of Boyd's old neighbors. Great book. @Betrayingfate good to have you on the forum. Why not slip over to the new members section and introduce yourself to everyone. Good luck, hard work does pay off.

Killing is far more effective. I may have a spot in my trailer near Trout Lake from the 15th to the 20th. If you're interested, we'd need to meet up in advance. See the thread here:

There ya go Mister!  I’d jump all over this if I were you, it would certainly shorten your learning curve. It’s a great offer PMan, I’ve invited a few newer hunters to my camps over the years myself.  Hope it works out. Who knows, maybe you’ll get your elk feet wet this year   ;)

Surprised nobody has suggested this, but if youre a new hunter and have 5 unsuccesful years under your belt, maybe you should try rifle hunting first before you go archery.  Much better chance of success with a rifle.  Get some kills / experience under your belt with a gun, you can always make life harder on yourself later by switching back to archery.

Don't listen to this usurper. He's not your friend!  :chuckle:

I appreciate all the resources given, i will mesaage those that have offered advice and assistance personally. I will give the advice that i dont want to rifle hunt. over the last 5 years, yes i havent taken anything down, though ive had some close calls and on one i had the shot but morrality of taking a doe with her young fawns in the area doesnt seem to sit with me that well. if she was alone, that may be a  take, but her fawns were maybe 2 months along and i could take it to her.

I appreciated reading that you passed on the doe and why.

I’m new to elk but not new to hunting. I too only hunt archery. Maybe one day that will change but for me the bow feels better. I’m always down to go hit the woods, split the work and help scout, call, etc.  I also have a killer turkey spot in Colville. I’m not trying to sound rude or cocky, but I can limit my fall birds in a single weekend in this spot (there is just so many), so I’m always down to trade off.

I’m a vet, mid 40’s and family guy. Myself, wife, and son, live in W. Seattle. PM me if you ever want to meet up and see if we’d make a good team.
