Title: Traditions 209 conversion
Post by: scottfrick on October 07, 2020, 02:34:42 PM
I have a traditions vortex strikefire muzzle loader and I’m wanting to use 209 primers. What do I need to purchase in order to do this? Hopefully it’s a possibility. Thank you!

Muzzle-loaders.com will answer your questions and sell parts if its a go.  Im pretty sure you just swap out breech plugs as I have the Strikerfire with the 209 plug.

I looked and it doesn’t look like I can switch it out. That’s alright tho, just means I need to ask for a new one for Christmas  :chuckle:

Awesome. And perfect out of stock. I’m hating 2020 more and more when I see those words. Thank you for being so helpful! I appreciate it.

From what I understand, only the hammer guns can be converted due to the firing pin on the striker-fire. Maybe it’s changed, though.

Have same problem and same solution - Remington Ultra or maybe CVA Paramount is better.

My brother has the strikefire and he tried to switch it out but it didnt work I believe you are correct about the firing pin.  I have a bit of an older vortex with the hammer...I am going to try...Cabelas has both in stock so I ordered the nipple style breech plug for mine...time will tell.

I got the northwest cva, I have to change out the breech and firing pin when converting it.

You can't convert a 209 to a northwest legal musket cap due to the larger firing pin, but you can convert a northwest legal to a 209 primer with a firing pin bushing and correct firing pin and correct spring.

The blackthorn takes a different breech than a regular 209 but uses the same firing pin as a reg 209. The blackhorn powder needs a powder cup built in to the breech for proper ignition.

The northwest CVA can do all three

I used to have the strikefire but also found out the firing pin does not allow you to switch over to the 209's. Had issues with the strike fire not going off with internal issues and when taken apart and put back together the spring got damaged. Ended up purchasing the Pursuit G4 with the hammer and same 30" barrel. This was easy to convert to 209 with the quick swap of breech plug, firing pin, base plate and spring which takes 4 minutes tops (all parts come in a conversion kit). Could not be happier, just installed the williams peep/globe sight and will play with it for next season. Good Luck.
