Title: A Few From the Chewuch
Post by: Katmai Guy on October 11, 2020, 01:02:34 PM
Appears to be not a very good spot for anything but moose.  out of 5000+ images, these are the only bear and cougar visits I had.  The rest of the photos were split between  a few does with fawns and 3 different bulls.

Hopefully the moose do well and numbers improve

good for moose means bad for deer. deer cant compete for the browse. line too high

Yep, sucks, I only had 4 deer since June, a doe with twin fawns, and a little 2 pt.

 Been seeing them for years, everywhere from Pateros to Lost River.   Numbers have slooooowly increased since I first started seeing them.   Pssst, don't tell the WDFW they are there!

Gardner bull from a few years ago. Learned my lesson to stay clear of them in late September the hard way. Literally had to run from it a few moments after pic was taken

I think moose are making a huge come back in that area. When I was a kid I was up at Sun Mountain with my parents who were there for a conference. I went on a walk through the sage and pines south of the lodge where the newer additions were built. Ran into a monster bull moose. I remember its antlers were incredibly wide. Maybe 50 inches or more and it had a collar on its neck. Admittedly, I was a scared ten year old.

It watched me for a bit and went back to feeding. I high tailed it outta there and when I told my parents and others at this conference they sort of heckled me like it wasn't really moose. Literally within an hour of my sighting some bios or scientists etc. show up at the parking lot with their gear because they were tracking the very same moose. The confirmed it was an enormous mature bull.

In the last few years alone I have seen several moose while hunting in Gardner and Chewuch.
