Seen 2 bulls since the opener. Haven't seen a bull in days. Very little sign, looks as if the rut is over and I'm so discouraged it's not funny.
-
Hills should be turning white up high, makes it a lot easier to spot them.
-
Take a break and refocus, the bulls are there, this is an OIL, don't blow it. My first trip over I did not tag out, passed on some, came back at the end of October, rut was still going on, leaves were off, saw bigger bulls and killed a dandy. Lots of time still.

They are, spent all morning at the top of Tacoma creek all the way at the north border and back. Seen one track in the snow and that was it.

This is the part of any hunt where the unsuccessful get filtered out. This is where you say "Dang this isn't looking good, but I'm going to keep going" OR you say "I'm eating tag soup".
Keep your head up, get some good snacks and get back out there.
-
Just keep at it. Might not see a thing for a week, then bam, theres that big *censored* right in front of you. Just like hunting anything else. It can be really slow and discouraging right up until it isnt, then its over in a heartbeat and youre asking yourself what the hell just happened?

:yeah: keep your head in the game Tyson, the last 5 days will be your friend!

I'm surely not giving up, just getting very discouraged. I was told by an outfitter in the area that the rut was all but over so it's only going to get harder. So that just shoved more doubt in my head.
-
I feel you, I just got back from my first attempt at a cow in Douglas and the lack of sightings and fresh sign was very discouraging. Positive mental attitude is hard to maintain. If you know from past experience what gets your head back in the game, do that thing! And push through the wall, like other folks are saying here. I wish you success!
-
Don't let that doubt in your mind ruin your hunt. The rest of us are very jealous that you have that OIL tag and wish it was us out there. Enjoy every minute of your hunt and whether or not you score you are hunting moose and we are not. Good luck and keep at it.

I'm not a moose expert, but I hunted them a lot in N. Idaho not far from your unit. I had the most success and saw the best bulls later into season. Never had much luck hunting in the rut. Colder weather, leaves falling, maybe some snow...will all be your friend. If you are getting burned out, take a break now...be ready to go the last part of your season, I think it will be better.
-
I have been told that it only gets better latter in the season. I have also been told they can move to another area for wintering grounds and the bulls tend to congregate and you see more of them once you find them. Have faith and hang in there. There out there. ;).
-
Stick with it. I was starting to feel the same way and then boom and I was done.
-
I believe Gletty Creek is in your area, used to be some VERY nice bulls in there, if you are looking for a little change of scenery.
-
We're all pulling for you. Keep at it.

Prayers sent.

As it has been said, with moose it seems you see a several or you see none. Keep on it and it will happen. Enjoy where you are and what your doing, it will come together.

don't give up. a lot of moose get kicked around during deer season. 1 of the biggest bulls i have seen in my life was opening weekend of deer season in 49 north.
-
Relax. Anyone that has draw a good tag knows about the extra pressure that you feel with it. Take a deep breath and relax a few days and go kill a OIL bull.
-
Stick with it bud. My buddy drew a moose tag last year in one of the less desirable units. We didn’t even see a moose for 5 days. Then bam it happened! You’ll be fine. Take a deep breath and regroup. Stay positive! It will happen!
-
I know the exact feelings your going through. I drew the exact same tag last year. We made several scouting trips and saw numerous animals on each trip over. Right before the season started we had a significant snow storm. That made getting around the unit damn near impossible. We could still access some areas down low and made the best of what we could but we couldn't make it to any of our scouted areas. I ended up burning up all the vacation time I had to hunt the first week of the season. I passed a small bull on the first day. After that the only other bull I saw was one that another tag holder had just harvested. I went home frustrated, stressed out and worried I wasn't gonna be able to make it happen. After a bit of time home I was able to make a second trip over and ended up killing my bull on t
Oct 20th. You still have time. It only takes one. Keep your head up.
-
I was in this same situation with my Mount Spokane moose tag two years ago. October was horrible for me but by November 17th, when you finally could see more clearly, it became way easier and I got a moose. Just keep at it. Everyone else is right. Keep positive and keep going. You will be rewarded.
-
No such thing as give up with a moose tag in your pocket. I had better luck in November when I had my tag 5 years ago
-
Still lots of season left! Moose will become more visible the later it gets. Also be sure to be in the moose zone (where youve seen moose or fresh sign) very early as the first minutes of daylight can be critical.
Good luck!
-
If you want a change of scenery pm me I’ll send you some places I’ve seen moose all the time
-
The rut definitely isn't over and the best time to see moose is yet to come.
-
Sometimes you see things when you are not looking for them, go look for some grouse :twocents:
