I'll take it that's a no?
-
It realy sucks when you plan a hunt out and then don't get drawn. :dunno:
-
I'll be there again! :tung: Gonna try and draw me a limited archery tag for elk. Then go for the Antelope tag.
-
I should have put in for other there, it sounds like the whole gang is going.
-
I struck out this year...but Ive hunted montana the last three yrs and have only been drawn once...there is always hope! :'(
-
Ridge/ Bone, try for the leftovers if still possible, if not you could still get a doe tag for some venison and scout out some spots for next year. My challenge as a person who'll be a first timer and who is primarily a meat hunter will be to hold out for the most mature buck. The good thing though is that the relatives I'm going with really know the area and have some good private honey holes.
-
I drew a landowner tag.
-
Dman......when/where abouts you going over there?
-
kirkl.....what'd that landowner tag cost ya?
-
Same as the general deer tag, like 343 or something like that.
-
Slyr, we are most likely going Thanksgiving week, but we'll have to sit down and hammer it out. We stay on our relatives spread SE of Lewistown. How about you?
-
Dman.....we'll be close. I'll be just east of Winnett, which is just east of Lewistown. I'm going in Sept. though...archery. If I don't get my buck, I'll be back in Nov.
-
looks like we are all in the same area, i will be hunting out of lewistown as per the last 12 something years
-
Have you ever been in the sporting goods store in lewistown? There are some Major bone in there! stopped in to have lunch on the way home last year and popped into the store as we saw the mounts...holy crud! huge deer!
-
Very cool, I'll be visiting Yellowstone in June and will take a look at the area as we pass through then for the first time. Slyr, Wamuley any info would be appreiciated for this first timer in that area, after June I'll give you a shout, if not sooner.
-
Here is my wifes Montana buck from 2006. I shot a spike with my .480 Ruger. We didn't put in for this year but we are thinking about putting in for antelope.
-
Headed to Winnett for a archery antelope hunt in mid August. Anybody got any suggestions on how to prepare? I'm on private land hunting out of pit blinds.
-
so.....as someone is looking into putting in for this tag starting next year with a couple buddys, can someone give me some pointers as far as where to start doing our homework? like a good resource for public hunting land access, or maybe do landowners do trespass fees or something along those lines, i sure don't mean to sound like an idiot, but i know nothing. i can handle fishing in montana no problem, but hunting?? :dunno: :dunno: just don't know where to start researching. gotta start somewhere, eh?
none of us have ever hunted out of state.
thanks a lot for any input. it's appreciated.

If you know a general area you would like to hunt, call the Block Management office and get a pamphlet for that area. They generally are published in Aug. There are two types of Bmgmt areas, sign in and call ahead. Once you have determined a couple of block mgmt you want to hunt call the office back and they will provide you with names and numbers of those areas to contact. these land owners want you to hunt as they are subsidized by the game dept to allow hunters they get paid I believe per hunter. The sign in areas you dont have to call, you show up, sign in and start hunting. I have only hunted the sign in areas and have seen lots of bucks and killed nice bucks and rarely see people. The call ahead areas restrict the number of hunters/day so if you sign up for a 5 day stretch they expect you to hunt there for all of those days. I never wanted to be tied down like that. the sign in areas are walk in only. I believe alot of the call ahead ones allow quads to remove game...There is also BLM, state and forest service ground to hunt. It is really not that hard to find a place to hunt and see more and better bucks than a typical WA hunt. If you need more info pm me with specific questions.
