Title: Suppressors
Post by: Snakeriver on October 24, 2020, 10:26:33 AM
Whose got em? I'm thinking about getting one for a 6.5 and another for a 338 edge, for sound reduction and recoil. Haven't decided on a brand yet but wanna get the process started due to the wait time.

for the calibers you mentioned look at the omega 36 or the hybrid. i have the hybrid and the 36 is in nfa jail. if you will never exceed .380 go with the omega 36 as it is modular to allow size reduction when weight matters. it is a bit heavier that the harvest or but a lot more flexibility and durability imo. the harvester is great for bolt gun hunters and really well made but due to its light weight it will heat up fast if you shoot it a lot. lastly i would add if you ever plan on shooting 22lr from it get one you can take apart and clean. call the folks at silencershop and tell them what you are trying to do. they will steer you in the right direction.

it’s an addictive hobby with loads of patience thrown in.

I have the Griffin Armament GP 7, direct thread. Rated up to 300 RUM. Have run it on my 5.56 AR, 6.5 Grendel, 300 BLK and 300 WM. Works great on all of them.
Now I have to get my 243 and 22-250 threaded. 10 month wait.

Do your guys have the quick attach/deattach. Would like to be able to carry it in my pack and then attach when needed? Do you still need hearing protection?

All mine are direct thread . My 22 bolt rifle / pistols no hearing protection required  . AR Pistol I dont " need " hearing protection but I use it . AR rifles are manageable . Hunting rifles if I'm at the range i use it but hunting I dont .

I have a silencerco Omega 300.  Love it.  I have multiple mounts for different guns.  QD mounts for the AR's and direct thread for the hunting rifles.  No hearing protection required with it on....although it still wouldn't hurt.  Have it on the Tikka CTR 6.5 here.

X2 for the Harvester.  Rapid fire is not a consideration for hunting and the light weight makes all the difference. I also have a Specwar and never take it afield. Used a shorty .308 and Harvester to take my deer Tuesday evening.

So is rezeroing necessary everytime you install or remove one?

No, the POI changed on every gun, but after zeroing with the suppressor on zero has stayed after removing and re attaching.  Others may have different results, but all of mine are consistent every time.

I have a AAC M4-4000. For my ARs. And I have a Thunder beast 9” 30cal. I use the Thunder beast on my 7mm and will be used on my 6.5 when it’s finished. Wonder whey I waited so long to get them. Took about 10 months to get for each of them.

I have one form4 22cal, and built a few form1's while I was waiting on the F4 to go through the BS.  Cans are fun!

Has anyone got a Griffin Armament? They make a 338 suppressor that weights 12.7 ounces and sells for $995. Where the TBAC I was looking at is 16.9 ounces and sells for $1795.

You will have to decide which one you are going to go with before you can start anything as the serial number is required. I have a Sico Omega 300 for my rifles and it is a great can. It makes everything tolerable to shoot without earpro. My Deadair Mask is an amazing rimfire can and I highly suggest it. Still waiting for my Sico Omega 45k for my pistols, in fact I just called the ATF today to check on the status. Wait times are hit and miss, one took 10 months while the other was 2.5 months. It varies and they will tell you that the range is 7-10 months. I'd suggest a centerfire can that can cover everything you want to suppress for a first purchase, kind of a jack of all trades. And then look at others that might work better for specific applications.

I have a few now and absolutely love them. The .22 cans are a kick in the butt, with subsonic rounds they are airgun quiet. For my hunting rifle I have the SilencerCo Harvester. It's relatively hearing safe and I did see a noticeable tightening of my groups with the suppressor on.

So have you guys seen the "gas filters" on sale on facebook?  All you do is drill out the hole on the end and bam, it's a suppressor.  I realize they are illegal once you drill the hole, but my question is, if you drill the hole, put a serial number on it and send it in for a federal stamp, would it then be legal?  These things are cheap as hell, $64 dollars compared to 1,000+.

Look up FORM 1 silencers. Ive built a few.  You can buy that kit, file for a stamp, and in a month or less have a serial number for it and then drill it out, legally.

I think you need to be a Title 2 manufacturer...

Looks like you need a Type 7 FFL plus Class 2 SOT.  I'm not an attorney, but it sounds like a significant amount of paperwork, cost and time.

Post by: birdshooter1189 on December 15, 2020, 12:19:33 PM
I'm pretty sure title 2 manufacturer is required if you are building many of them and re-selling as a business.

If you are building one, or a few, for yourself personally, you just need a form 1. Basically the same form as if you bought a commercial suppressor.

Just a form 1 to make your own suppressor.
Title: Re: Suppressors
Post by: Stein on December 15, 2020, 12:23:23 PM
Type 7 is manufacturing.  Sellers are 1, 2, 9 and maybe other ones.  There are FFLs for importers, dealers, collectors and manufacturers.

Just a form 1 to build your own suppressor.

Looks like Bull is right.  According to one non-federal site that may or may not be right, you have to get permission before you make it.  If you go the FFL route, you can make it, then file.

You dont need an ffl or sot to make your own suppressor, just a tax stamp
Thats the atf form 1 and it takes about a month for approval.

For $65 on facebook you probably arent getting a quality device, but there are form 1 suppressors that are good quality and durable. It just costs money.

No, the POI changed on every gun, but after zeroing with the suppressor on zero has stayed after removing and re attaching.  Others may have different results, but all of mine are consistent every time.

So the POI changed with the suppressor on and you had to re-zero. So now without the suppressor on you are off again correct? Meaning your guns are off without it?

If you go the Form 1 route you can pick up an aluminum rimfire kit for anywhere from $15-$150. SS kits are $75-$200 and titanium for $200-$500. Some are good, some aren’t. K cups and cones, just look at clipping your cups and file with the alphabet bois before you drill.

Sorry didn't see you were asking about one on Facebook. Thought your buddy was bashing all Solvent traps . Would I be scared to run a $65 Trap on a .22 absolutely not . Might think twice about using it on a Centerfire though .

No but the " Gas Filters " or " Solvent Traps " are all over the place for sale , if you know where to look . Would I buy a $75 can for a Centerfire rifle probably not . For a .22 Absolutely . There are quite a few reputable " Solvent Trap " dealers out there . If you know what your looking for you can put together a pretty nice can off Amazon for $100  .
please do tell!!  PM?
