Looking for suggestions for a binocular chest pack to carry my 10x42 binoculars plus extra pockets to carry my rangefinder, head lamps and a few other miscellaneous items that I'll need quick access to. I've been looking and prices are all over the place! I've seen them from $25 to almost $200! I'd like something in the middle of those, maybe $75 to $100. I'd appreciate any suggestions you might have, especially from those with personal experience.
Thanks!

I've only had experience with Alaska Guide Creations, but after using mine for 2 years I have no desire to switch to any other brand.
Does include a rangefinder pocket. Depending on which model you get, it can come with additional pockets. The price is slightly more expensive than your price range but worth every penny in my opinion.

Everyone has an opinion on these. I switched to FHF this year and have had good experiences with them.
I've heard great things about Alaska Guide Creations, Kuiu, and a few others.
I REALLY like my Rick Young Outdoors for archery day hunts, but they aren't practical for most of my hunts.
The new Sitka one is snazzy, but less modular than FHF.
It's really whatever suits you. Pick something and go with it and you'll likely be fine.

I'm not sure there is something in between the 25 to $50 price range and then it moves up to the $200 price range. I have Alaska guide Creations hybrid harness and I have a new outdoor Vision harness and I like the outdoor Vision harness way better the lid is magnetic and it flips forward rather than backward toward you and it just seems to work way better for me.

I use a Tactical Tailor fight light chest rig that's out fitted with a pouch and mag holders that fit all the things I want to carry in the field to include binos, tags, range finder, calls, phone, headlamp, small tools, extra disposable gloves.

Not sure if you’ve tried this yet, but if you go to the upper right of the page you’ll find a search bar. I just pulled up a full page (there might have been more) of posts about my search topic; bino harness.
Good thing about going the search route first is you’ll often find days, weeks, sometimes years of discussions on given topics. You’re also far likelier to find many of your questions answered.
The search function isn’t anywhere near as robust as say, Google. So sometimes I have to play around with my search terms
Lots of similar discussions on Rokslide as well. After you read enough to get a feel for what you want, you can do the same with historical classifieds for bino harness values.
Good luck!

Agreed. I’ve been using one for 4 or so years. Range finder pocket, chest zipper for my license, side pockets for calls and wind indicator. Don’t even know I’m wearing it. Super comfortable.

One tip on that search box. Go to the board that applies and type in what you are searching for. Don't type bino harness into the out of state hunting board, do it hear in the all other gear board.
Same thing goes for Entiat deer hunting information, search for it when in the deer hunting board, not the political topics board.

I've got the Outdoor Vision version on order with the rangefinder pouch additional. Upgrading from an old Nimrod one. Looking forward to it! Been happy with their products/service so far.

That combo is exactly what I ended up with from outdoor vision and I love it

After having owned 5 harnesses, I've found the one I like the most. Marsupial gear enclosed is the best one for me. Usa made, customer service is top notch and the harness itself functions better than the others I've tried. I'd highly recommend them. If you have questions, call the guy up, hell chat with you all day long.

Agreed
Very comfortable
Only downside IMO is mine seemed loud as heck hunting whitetails early archery might just be me but I’m looking for something from nimrod that’s pretty much all fleece

I will throw my 2 cents in the hat , I have used badlands for a couple seasons ,switch to Alaskan guide creations and used all the extra pouches they offer used it for 5 years it was stretched out and just wasn’t doing it for me ,switched to kuiu and returned it immediately and finally this year switched to the outdoor vision with rangefinder pouch I have to say it’s by far exceeds all my expectations
-
I've owned the Kuiu's for about 4 years and have had no trouble whatsoever. This last year I switched over to the Alaska Guide Creations Kodiak C.U.B Max model. Initially my first thoughts were that they were a little more bulky than the KUIU's. After a successful elk/deer hunt in Idaho I am completely sold on AGC. They fit perfectly to my body, i love the pockets, and they make it easy to quickly access my bino's or rangefinder.

I have a kuiu bino harness and range finder pouch I would sell if your interested.

FHF Gear Harness and Rangefinder pouch here . No complaints after 2 years .
Ever notice these threads are like a Ford vs Chevy vs Dodge thread :chuckle:. BTW Ford
-
I’ve had a bad lands for several years and hate it and really always have. I just got a marsupial gear and so far I’m a fan. Time will tell
-
I have used multiple models and stuck with my agc the last few years and don’t plan on changing. Bought my old man one this year for our elk hunt and he loved it too. I like being able to keep all my essentials in it so if I drop my pack for a stalk I am good to go.
-
Hill People Gear. I carry my 10x42 swaros. My hand gun, kestrel, headlamp, gloves and spare shells all in my chest pack. Not a thing about it I would change
-
Is there a bono and pistol case that would be low profile for archery hunting
-
I'm stoked on the adak bino harness. Easy one handed acess for both range finder and binos. Completely silent material. They sell em on camofire.com for 79 bucks. Worth every penny. Definitely doesn't have a pocket big enough for a headlamp. Not really sure why you'd need quick acess to a headlamp though...
-
I packed AGC Hybrid with 10x42 and rangefinder for 3 years and would change nothing. Got new Kuiu XL with new 10x42 ranging binoculars and don't like it nearly as much. Opens the wrong way in my opinion. Harder to slip binos in and out. I even called AGC to see if I could get a custom larger size to fit ranging binoculars without all the pockets. No luck. I should have stuck with AGC in larger size and removed the pockets or just not filled them.

I met a guy while out hunting last season with a hill people chest rig was really impressed with been thinking of getting one for fishing. Glad to hear something on them

I've had a few from FHF.
Think I would check out Marsupial Gear & Stone Glacier
-
I just bought this one. The holster isn’t that good but the Nosegunner holds my Vortex Vultures fine.
I run a Gunrunner pack so this is a good add on.

You have a couple options that I’ve seen or heard about in the last year. Probably more but check out this one...

As far as Bino harnesses I’ve tried a lot of them: badlands, fhf, muleyfreak, AGC, vortex, and currently a kuiu.
My take away is it depends what you want in a bino harness. My preference may not meet yours but what I found I like in a bino harness is a low profile, fully enclosed to keep debris out and a lid that opens away from your chest that can be manipulated with one hand.
Figure out what your looking for in a bino harness and search out the one that meets your criteria’s. An AGC sounds like it would be a good fit for what you described and is a well built and proven bino harness.

Only problem with that magnet is that it screws with your compass.

The magnet is the size of a quarter and seams like you would have to hold the compass so close to screw with it besides how many actual hunters still use a compass I asked some guys at a near by camp last year who got “ momentarily bewildered” why not just use a compass and was shocked not a single person in there camp used a compass or even carried one . Then asked some people in our elk camp and a few people didn’t even know how to use one made me laugh my dad drilled it into us and I alsways have one no matter how far the walk is
Only problem with that magnet is that it screws with your compass.

I’ve had a few, all have their good and bad qualities.
S4 lockdown: quiet, keeps binos out of the rain but the straps suck, they don’t stay tight.
AGC cub max: lots of pockets, locking straps so it stays where you want it. On the downside I’m not wild about the flap opening from the front, makes getting binos in and out sort of tedious. Also, material is rather noisy.
Rick young harness: this one gets the most use from me now. Weighs next to nothing, very configurable and about as bulky as a shoelace. Only downsides for me are that it’s hard to adjust unless I take it off first, and it’s just a strap so I have to be creative to cover my binoculars in the rain.
I’ve really been trying to cut down on carding unnecessary crap around while hunting, I run hot and my back gets sore easily when wearing a pack. Generally now I wear a vest with a few essentials and my binoculars. I’m one of those guys who can find a reason to fill every pocket I have with stuff I don’t need. The rock young harness is great for this. I really like the agc pack but it’ll probably see more future use where I bring my higher powered binos (glassing on the east side etc).

The Rick Young system looks good.
Started using a chest holster with my SW 69 and that limits what else can be worn.
Is there a good way to wear both or is it one or the other ?
-
FHF Gear out of Bozeman has a really good bingo harnesses. Made in the USA by a retired sheriff. For years he was making these in his basement in his off hours.
Steve Rinella has been using one for a long time and now FHF Gear is partnering with Meateater and Firstlite to help move more product.

If you carry your chest rig while wearing a backpack, check out FHF's pack suspension kit. It hangs your chest rig off of your backpack straps. I have an AGC hung by a FHF suspension kit with a FHF rangefinder pouch attached to the side. The backpack suspension kit puts the weight on your backpack suspension and eliminates the bino harness portion under your backpack suspension.
This doesn't work well for the guy who doesn't want to wear the backpack all the time or wants to drop the backpack and keep the chest rig on.

That looks painful :chuckle: might check out the Razco stuff
