Private Lands Hunting Opportunity

Keep in mind that all of San Juan County is a Firearm Restriction Area, meaning that centerfire rifles are not allowed. Your options are shotgun, archery, muzzleloader, and revolvers.
Small deer, but lots of 'em, and either sex.

I hunted both general and late season without seeing a single deer. I know they are there, but not on the 15acres I was hunting🤷🏻♂️ I was hu ting with a 10mm 1911.

I've hunted San Juan island for around the last 7 years. We've taken a few nice bucks over the years. 99% private land but there is one place by Roche Harbor that is open to the public, but you need to stop by the office and fill out some paperwork and get a permission slip. Funny thing is we've only took one deer off that property. They are there, but its very thick brush. Its definitely best during modern season as it seems the bucks rut a lot earlier on the islands. I watched a buck breed a doe on opening day last year. Most landowners seem to prefer archery so the crossbow has been a killer out there during modern. And, your pretty much guaranteed to draw a second deer tag there so I've come home with 2 deer most times. Not the most challenging of hunts but its been fun and put a lot of meat in the freezer over the years. The buck pictured is my biggest from there.
