I went out to the Everett pier for the first time on Sunday and man is this stuff fun. So much food!
-
Maybe this is the year I finally give it a go.
-
It’s been really good this year. Last week I limited in my float tube in the middle of the day.
-
I'd like to do it during the day with my kids. How would I do that? I'm in the south sound.

Day fishing works well. They're just a little more prone to being picky on what color jig you're using.
-
I’ve never noticed jig color to make a difference. They should be anywhere there isn’t too much current. 40-70 feet during the day. If it’s cloudy they’ll come in shallower.
-
Think these would work, good price for 10?

-
Those jigs don’t work. Buy local. There’s a couple guys on eBay that sell Puget Sound squid jigs. I like the ones with a metal twist in the middle for float tube squidding.
-
So, could I launch out of zittles or nisqually and expect to find some close by? Do I just cruise around looking for bait on my electronics?

I 100% agree with Jake D.

Something like this? I think I have a few in the garage somewhere that I bought somewhere local 15 years ago.

That I can't answer. One, I've never done it out of a boat. (Would like to)
and two, I've never fished south of Commencement Bay.
-
I don’t know about those areas, or if the South Sound has the numbers below the Narrows. We used to do well at Longbranch dock but that was years ago. From Redondo north it’s pretty loaded. A lot of guys use there electronics to get on them. They do move around a lot.

Arrowflinger and I are headed out early tomorrow morning. Ready to slay the kraken. :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
Cool, thanks guys.
-
kingsquidjigs.com is where I buy 99% of my jigs. Larry Cluster is a good dude. Specially if you like to BS.
-
Some fine dining been happening in our kitchen.
-
When I go out, I'll use rigs that allow you to run three jigs. I start with three different colors and switch to the one they like the most. The best haul with 3 jigs is 7 one one pull, but most of the time it's 1 or 2. It's a blast.
Took the daughter out when she was in kindergarten, she hauled in a really big one for here about 12 inches. She froze it on a foil tray and did a show and tell at school, all was fine until the teacher put it on the heat register you can imagine what happened. :chuckle:
-
Is Edmonds doable with kids? I checked out the facebook squid group and read about fights, cops, drunk guys and all sorts of fun.
-
South Sound try Dash Point Dock or the Les Davis Pier. Dash Point is quiet not many people.
-
Daylight hours are effective right now. Maybe a better option for the kids.

Attention Dash Point Park & Pier Visitors: Due to the overcrowding on Dash Point Pier since squid fishing started, and given the governor’s updated COVID-19 safety rules, the pier will be closed to the public beginning November 24.
No squid for you. Go to the mall instead I guess?
-
check out these jigs in classifieds.

My co worker just gave me some.
What is the best breading or what do you put on them before frying?
-
Remember you "Face Shields" along with your Masks.....they may save your life. :chuckle:
-
Limited again today. I just used one jig because I was treading water in the float tube with easy current. They are getting bigger!
-

I prefer a 50/50 mix of cornmeal and rice flour. Put them in and mix them a few times over the course of an hour and they'll get a light coating that turns out crispy.
On another note - just what, if any, public peers are currently open and catching?
-
This has been on my "I want to do that" list for about twenty years. My brother was a chef on the waterfront in Seattle for a long time and I remember seeing the guys all doing it when we came out one night. Looks like fun and I love squid. Good luck folks. Maybe you'll see me out there on of these years
-
What is the limit?
-
10lbs or 5 quarts. Whichever comes first. Got my limit the other night. If anyone needs jigs I've got them now. I've got quite a few. Amount always changing. But can always load up on more. $5 for unweighted. Or $6 weighted. In Spanaway area.
Up north in Seattle area seems to be solid right now. South seems pretty slow.
-
any intel on kitsap side action ? Brownsville?
-
Furthest south I've fished is Les Davis. Very slow. See one here and there pulled up but most are just giving up nights I've been there.
-
Anyone know if there's opportunities in the Sequim/ Port Angeles area?

Soecifically if they are in sequim bay?

That would be good too. I'd be in a boat.
-
They catch them in Port Angeles in late summer/fall. I haven’t heard anything recently.

The buoy PA in the rotary is good. I've heard of some off the city pier before, along with shrimp.
-
I'm game for some, anyone know of areas north of Everett?
-
Sounds like Seattle area is going strong from reports this week. Lots of limits to be had.

Awesome News

Whats the latest update from the start of the new year. Anyone getting out. I was out a few days ago and got a few pounds on a slack low. Wasn't read hot but consistent hear and there through the evening. Dialed new light system for it with a 500 watt flood led light. As well as a new blacklight for glowing jigs. Pretty sweet setup that is working out well.
Seattle area still producing pretty solid.
Anyone need any jigs feel free to reach out to me.
-
53 out of the float tube yesterday. One jig.
-
Still catching a lot in 11 guys, used a double jig set up from Duckmen1......worked great!
-
Great to hear. I have some new jigs coming that I can't wait to put in the water. They should be killer for mid and top jigs.

I used your heavy glow/pink on the bottom, and one of the green with red stripe around the middle 12” above. It was a killer setup and resulted in several “triples”, two on bottom jig and one on top jig.
-
Very nice. That's a great combo. I'll post pics when I finish with the new batches that I'm working on. Ive got new color combos in the thin upper jig that you are referring to that are getting me excited.. stronger bodies too. Can't wait to see the end result. We went to Edmonds recently too. Although there weren't a ton of squid that day I did well. Our lighting was great and I was pulling about an 8-1 ratio compared to others so it felt good.
-
Oh yeah. One more coat on these and they will be added to the finished pile. Another 56 for the unweighted stock. And added a few weighted in the box too.

-
Man that looks like a blast! Going to have to give that a go one of these years.
-
Its a pretty easy fishery. Go to any local pier in puget sound. Some popular ones are well known. But go near someone with some light and jig a few jigs near the bottom. You will catch on quickly.
-
Last night fishing was a bit on the slow side to say the least for Edmonds Pier. There were some schools pushing through and showing themselves but there were quite a few seals chasing them down all evening. When the seals would leave for a few the squid would turn on. My new jigs were on fire during those times. Pretty happy with the success on those as well as the quality and durability of the thinner profile compared to others I've purchased in years past. Definitely getting good results with the product I'm producing and can't wait till next season. Still have plenty boxed up ready to go but next season I should have a crazy amount ready for everyone. Good eats everyone.
-
Still knocking them dead in 11, just a FYI.
-
Better on an incoming tide?? Morning? Evening? Middle of the day? I’ve only gone a couple times and not much luck!!
-
We have been going in the evenings, only thing we look for is wind and rain, and don’t go if either are forecast.
-

Boat or pier?

Boat, 70’ of water
-
Yeah edmonds has slowed as of lately. Maybe Ill bring jigs down to the pier and see what happens in 11.
-
 thanks!
-
Anyone still picking them up anywhere. Maybe maine area 11 or 13. I think the north sound I am betting would be pretty slow up near seattle.
