I saw a post on first kills. I thought I would start a best kills as well. I have yet to kill anything big but I will put my best so far just to start the thread.
The first is my best archery. The second is my best with muzz. They are both about the same.
-
Here's my best "kill". Sorry, not a deer, but I think it'll go book none the less.

Stickslinger, I thought your best kill would of been when you farted in the truck when we were Turkey hunting. I thought for sure I was going to die. :'( Its a good thing the paramedics got there when they did.

Beautiful Whitetail!
-
Nice mulies there huntunphool!!
Great whitetail jackelope!! I have only killed mule deer. We ought to guide eachother someday. I would love to kill a whitetail.
-
There is nothing wrong with that whitetail Jackelope, especially in Washington. I bet he sat good next to the mashed potatoes
-
After 24 years of hunting I managed to get this fine buck. He's 3 1/2 and not a huge trophy but I called him in. He came in fast and stood 50 yards away looking for another buck.
-
All great bucks!
Here's my cheesie pic of my biggest. It attracted quitea crowd at the gas station as word spread of his kill. At the time he was 33 7/8 and is currently #3 for archery in the state. He grosses 194ish if I remember right and nets close to 180.

Thats just sick.........
-
Bone, How old were you in that pic? What year was that, Just curious.
-
1992...I was 22. That was the one of the peak years of all time in the Methow for big bucks. Several 30 inchers were bagged in the general season. No early rut, no early snow, just lots of big bucks running around.
-
Second best deer: (I don't have any photos of my best one :( )

Hogsniper, yes I can only trap when there is a complaint. I have to apply for a special permit to use the banned traps. I normally tan them and have stuff made, I have a really nice beaver hat and mittens made from the last bunch. We better not hijack this thread anymore though. When I posted my photos I should have paid attention this was in the deer section and not posted the other three photos. Sorry everyone.

"so far...." Good luck beatin' that one dude....that things a tank! :o
FANATIC....I remember a buddy of yours, not sure who anymore, posted that up on MM.com. Some of us had some pretty good decussion about that buck. That's an awesome lookin' buck, especially for a 3pt. Was that a late tag or general?
-
muleyslyr--that was me.
i'll let fanatic tell the story of that buck.
-
ill go get one this weekend to put up here :chuckle:
-
my first hunt back from Iraq Shot them about 6 hrs apart on the last day of the season granted it was Wyoming, the antelope score 75, and the mulie even though it was a 3 point scored mid 140's,.......wish it had that 4th point  but im still more than happy with them, just a awesome experience...
-
muleyslyr,
That was a general rifle season buck. It was actually the fastest hunt I have ever been on. I left work at 9pm, went home loaded the truck and drove to the spot I had scouted numerous times before. I crawled into bed at about 1am. The next morning I was out hiking before the sun came up to a ridge I had seen some does and some good buck sign. If you remember the 05 season, it was pooring rain for the first week of the season. I reached the ridge about daylight and it was raining so hard I figured the deer would be seeking cover so I bagged the high stuff to hunt the timber. On my way back down I stopped to glass a small opening with high grass and few trees here and there. Just as I was starting to move on, I saw this guys antler tips just above the grass.. He was bedded under one of the trees. I tried to move around to get a better view and he winded me and bolted. Lucky for me he stopped broadside at about 75 yds to get a last look...boom he was done. I walked over, hooted and hollered, and looked at my watch. It was 9am. My season lasted about 4 hrs. It was awsome and sad at the same time. I had just bagged the biggest deer of my life ( and my first mule deer), but it all happened so fast it didnt leave much for memories of the hunt. Oh well, thats hunting!
-
I dont know about your weather and years coinciding together correctly, the 05' season opening day was blue-sky in the Teanaway and across the Kittitas county, unless......it was later on in the week that you hunted and not opening day, because I know opening day wasn't raining. But regardless it doesn't matter, great buck again.
-
If I remember correctly, it was on a Sun. and it had been raining since Friday. It was not opening day, I was at work that day. :(
-
FANATIC....from the looks of the area around you looks maybe memoriable dragging that thing outta there. ;) Funny how things turn out. If it wasn't pouring, you might not have hunted that timber and never seen that dude. Do you got any pics of the mount?
-
Do you got any pics of the mount?
now you're asking for trouble.
-
Getting it out was a pain because I was alone. Luckly A nice old guy came along and helped out! The mount is a sore subject. Right after I got it back from the taxidermist, before I got it hung on the wall it was damaged....by my dog. I left one day to go fishing, thought I had closed my office door all the way, and I hadnt. When I returned, half of the face had been chewed off. Needless to say, I was pissed. Still havent had it repaired. Any ideas?
-
Ya....get a new dog. ;)
Gotta find a cape for that guy. Bucks like that don't come around here very often.

Their is realy no way to repair that skull! If you want a European mount the antlers can be put on a reproduction skull or you can have an antler plaque done. The only other option realy is to get it shoulder mounted...
-
Enjoyed all the pictures. Unfortunately, these are from my mothers ploaroid. I need to update these to digital. Sorry for the poor quality!

I guess I could post this in this thread and first deer thread. My first was my best, shot in Ferry County. It was 1985 and I was 10 years old. Buck weighed about 300 lbs on the hoof and goes about 170" gross. No real deductions and lots of mass. The deer was really old. His teeth were completely worn down and he had been shot 3 times. I found a .22 slug in his backbone embedded. I found a huge ball of mulleloader lead on his front knee and it was twice the size of his other knee. As I recall he also had an injury from another high powered rifle that he survived. He was just too old to run from me so I did the ethical thing and shot him. Toughest meat from a deer I ever killed. :IBCOOL:

I read through this whole thread today. Brought back some old names and the reason I started lurking here. I lurked for about a year before there was reason enough for me to start posting. I really enjoyed threads like this, just hunters sharing fun memories!! Thank you for bringing this back up, and THANK YOU TO ALL WHO CONTRIBUTED to this and threads like it.
-
Man was that a long time ago. Come a long ways since then. Just don’t get around to sharing on here much anymore .
-
I’ve killed some nice animals since 2007, but I still haven’t topped my whitetail or elk. Have since killed my biggest muley tho
-
And to think I used to have short hair.

15+ year of no bests? come on, give them up. Should at least be a ram from the far north last fall!!!!

Pathfinder, it looks like you just got off of your bike with training wheels when you shot that monster whitey!!! You actually were young many moons ago!!! Ha ha!!! Great buck!
-
Just a doe, eh? Well this was special to me…. The last evening of the last day. I was hunkered down behind a sagebrush 15 yards from a game trail coming out of the deep dark canyon. The doe came out on a trail 50 yards away.
I was carrying a homemade longbow I made - arrows I made - arrows tipped with a broadhead I made from a saw blade.
The doe was grazing slowly, unalarmed. My hand / eye coordination, honed by thousands of practice shots figured she was 50 yards away which coincidentally is my point of aim at full draw. I drew slowly, anchored and picked the spot, the release was clean and I watched the red and white feather fletched shaft fly true to hit behind the shoulder just a tad high. She fell right at that spot without taking a step… spined, she dropped like a rock. Not a ‘trophy’ in the grandeur sense. But one of my most satisfying hunts.
-
My best buck just happen to have the two men who taught me everything in life. Best day a hunter could have asked for.

Here's my best mule deer from a size standpoint. My mountain goat isn't an exceptional trophy by size standards but the hunt itself will forever be one of my grandest adventures.

And my best bull not only in size but in the hunt itself. Regardless of whether I ever kill a bigger bull he will forever stand as my best.

Yeah, I agree. It has 242” of tine length. SCI measures each tine and doubles the paddle length and width. That’s why there is such a spread between B & C and SCO on moose scores. Tine length pushed this one to the world record Shiras Moose by 1.4”.
Boone and Crockett counts points. It only scores 178 B & C. Puts it around #50 B & C last time I looked.

Ha, yes, very good lesson on that one. Hunted hard all morning, and never saw a deer. Went for a middle of the day drive, and spotted this buck 525 yards across a canyon with a doe, 30 seconds after I had told my buddy “I wouldn’t shoot one over there if we did see one!”

It's a tough toss up on my best between several. But this buck was the icing on the cake to a nearly perfect season/s in multiple states. He was the final hunt of the year for 2017. I drew more permits then anyone really needed. On top of general deer elk bear and cougar in Washington. I ended up drawing second deer, cow elk, Montana deer and elk as well as Wyoming antelope. As well as having 3 deprivation tags in Washington. Ended the season only carrying an unnoticed cougar tag.

I’ve had a few friends suggest that, I did my best at scoring since I’ve never done it before and followed the online calculator and came up with 163ish non typical. The taxidermist guessed 160s based on what he’s seen. His mass and eye guards saved him I think (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20231121/14eaaff6dd01e4fd3b817fa87bfdc44c.jpg)

Not my biggest , but it’s my best Muley kill. A LOT of effort and time over 3 years seeing this buck and to get him in a unit that’s really not known for muleys.

Super nice mule and elk above

So many good bucks and other animals. Iron Head, that three I'd die a happy man. Mallard, that four is so cool with the curvature to the inside, and typical to boot. All the rest are great as well!

My biggest buck and biggest bull. Awesome trophies everyone!

You guys smashed me ,like a beer bottle on the side of the dirt road.

Two come to mind, both for sentimental reasons. A blacktail I harvested with a Savage Model 99 in 300 Savage that my grandpa gave me. He had passed away, so it was sentimental to be using the rifle he gave me. I have yet to find another buck that tore up trees like he did. The other one was another blacktail that I packed out whole on my grandpa's bike. He had passed away the previous spring. Both buck were nice mature blacktails and my target bucks for those years.

Thanks 399. Took a few days to wipe it off... I think it's gone now that I'm back at work... :chuckle:
-
Cuz in Montana called me on his way home from gutting and quartering the 5 point Bull he shot Saturday.
He said he was following a large spike, lost sight of it, cut over a hill to get in front of where he thought it would be.
As he crested the hill the 5 point was standing 75 yards away looking down hill. Just as he was dropping to brace up to shoot it turned and saw his movement.
He said he pulled up and shot it with a new to him 300 Win Mag he had bought and sighted in a couple months ago. He said it went about 50' and dropped. He hunted with our Grandpa's old 30.06 until this year when he decided to retire it to the safe for now.

This is still my favorite deer that I have personally taken, he was actually an 8x9, but the newspaper called it a 6 point, I got it the year after I graduated high school before I got so busy guiding hunters every fall.
That was back in my disco days, LOL.

There were three bucks like that, I watched them all summer, on the second weekend of early season we found them, they jumped up running straight away, I dropped this one with a texas heart shot, about an inch off dead center of you know what. It was the first time my buddy had ever went deer hunting and he forgot to take off his safety, he couldn't get his gun to shoot. We never saw the other two again and never heard of anyone getting them, I think they died of old age or predators
I took another friend in the same area a couple years later and he got another similar buck, a little younger and not quite as big, but with the same drop points on the end of both main beams, we figured it was off-spring of my buck or at least closely related.

Thats a dandy bearpaw, as well as all the others folks are posting. What’s your age estimate on that beaut of a white tail bearpaw? Looks like he may have the ole Roman nose along with the white face.
The one dead center in this picture is the Muley buck my dad killed in 1967, 11 by 9 that dressed(guts out) in the low 400’s they estimated him at 13 1/2 years old. It’s the skull mount with the spent casings above the rack. I think I told the story before but we’ve killed 4 huge non typicals in this route, a 13 by 9, an 11 by 7 and a 9 by 8 and this one. All in a 10 year span, all built like government mules, stocky and heavy bodied. Genetics? You bet!👍

My best, 2020.

I don't know what his age was and didn't even pay attention to his teeth, but he was old and smart, I was lucky to get him. We saw 22 deer that morning while still hunting, saw them all before they saw us, but those three bucks saw us first and jumped up running. I don't know if I could make that shot today, but I used to do a lot of coyote hunting and that refines your shooting skills. He was the heaviest whitetail I've ever seen, of course they don't get as big of bodies here as in the midwest or northeast.
Those are some nice mulies, great that you have your father's deer. I have my father and grandfather's best deer too.

My 9yr old Sons first bear (Brown) and my biggest bear (Black)

Here’s a few that’s hanging at my son’s place, all family bucks. We have pictures, mounts and plain old antlers scattered over 4 different properties. Some know about the hundreds my great grandparents donated to the Boy Scouts. Yes, hundreds of racks.
-
I think I’ve shown this guy before, won’t mention the weight, don’t need the drama but he was HEAVY! Killed him in a route that was all down hill for 3 1/2 miles, a bugger get up there but a sled ride coming down.😆

Another one, we have a few more animals added.
Wish I had all the racks from great grandma and grandpa.

Oh heck! God bless the 🇺🇸
Couple big boys, as always WAY uphill 😆
Dad used to tell us, “don’t even look down there”.👍
Pick em off in their beds. Sometimes two at a time.

My mule deer and elk are a few pages back, but I'll add my blacktail from this year to it.
-
Pretty good chance this Mule Deer will be the biggest I ever get in Washington, maybe anywhere. The best part was the hunt my Dad and I had together. The Blacktail isn’t huge, but it was one of my better efforts at figuring out how to get a specific Blacktail that had given us the slip previously.

Great animals 7mm and westside👍👍
As well as all others here👍
