Dad has an older Browning Abolt in 7mm Mag. This gun was my grandfather’s and it was never shot to my knowledge by him. I was going to grab some ammo and get this gun dialed in. I’m wondering what a starting point would be for a good flat shooting elk bullet as I’m not familiar at all with 7mm mag.

This is exactly what I shoot as well, but can't seem to find them anywhere. Anybody know where I can get some?

Or try out 160 Accubonds

Right now with the way ammo supplies are if you don't already have it unless you just luck out you'll be limited to whatever you can get and that's if you can get anything at all. I was at one of our local Sportsman's Warehouse last week and the shelves were nearly completely bare.

I don't know if you are having any trouble finding ammo but I just saw on another forum where a guy has quite a few boxes of HSM 7mm Rem Mag 168gr Berger Hunting VLD ammo for sale. If you're interested I'll PM you a link if not no worries.

I use those in my browning 7mag. They kill everything they contact with ease. There are some haters out there with regards to the Bergers, but I’ve yet to track anything that I’ve shot.
