At this time, this is the best way to estimate a population.

That is going to take a ton of work by the houndsmen but that is the best way to get accurate numbers. It will be interesting to see what those numbers come back at compared to what they had guessed there to be previously.

I worked a track for seven miles one time... I never found the end of it, could have been seven more for all I know.... That was one night's travel for that cat. Random 5 kilometer cells searched on random days is better than you find in most other states, but it's still faulty.
I wish them the best, but it's an impossible job.

Is cougar poop to hard to find to use fecal sample studies? Oregon is using it too study blacktail with some promising results. They are using dogs to find the fecal samples. Sounds cool!
