Title: Rufus Woods success
Post by: deerhuntr4885 on December 24, 2020, 09:33:13 AM
I know Rufus is pretty well known and this is not the biggest fish but the fishing forum has been pretty slow so I decided to post this up.  I was up there last week. I fished for only two hours and caught this guy from the bank.  I actually caught him 35 minutes into it. The day before  I hooked one about6 inches longer and a real hog but lost him while trying to land him without a net. Got so excited I actually jumped in the water after him when the hook popped out.  He was flopping around halfway on the shore.  It he got away.

Those Rufus rainbows are great tasting fish.  What part of the lake were you on?  I heard the Rez was closed for visitors until further notice.

I was on the Douglas County side, just above the first park and the boat launch. Powerbait was all I needed.

That’s what I heard too. Covid is especially hard on the Natives and lack of quality health care.  I don’t blame them for being cautious but seems like being out on a lake, fishing, would be minimal risk.  Just don’t allow non-natives in their stores etc.   but again, I get it.  Just want to fish Omak Lake this Spring.

Great eating fish right there! Congrats! We had some Rufus rainbow for dinner 2 nights ago. Sliced into fingers, seasoned, dredged in egg then cornmeal and into the hot grease! Dust with flaky finishing salt and it was all gone in a flash  :chuckle:

Well hey on the upside if they’re telling us not to come on their reservation and fish hopefully they’re telling their people not to come off the reservation to kill elk and deer.
Nice fish. I do need to get into the winter fishing more

Nice looking fish! Looks like it has an adipose fin? If so, it probably came from Roosevelt, as all releases into Rufus are clipped.

If they want to close the rez why are they still running the Ferries?

Nice fish. Good eats im sure. I've been meaning to eventually get there. Difficult though. Being 5 hrs away and so few vacation days. Thanks for sharing, and merry Christmas.  :hello:

You responded to the closing of the Rez and their LACK of quality health care. Isn't that political? Just asking a civil question.

Upstream of Rufus fish in these pics. Probably same genetics from the same hatchery?? Have you tried slip bobber-jig-shrimp down by the pens?

For some reason I haven’t thought of just going across to the non Rez side! Looks like the fishing is good, congrats

I thought the limit was 2?   But I never checked the regs.  Just what I was told.   Man, am I hooked n these big fish.  That was my first time believe it or not. Fished it once along time ago with a friend but did not catch anything.

I was just using a 3/4 oz. slip weight, 48” leader with a #4 hook, baited with garlic chartreuse powerbait ball and another powerbait ball with a long orange tail on it.  Tried to add marshmallow but it just kept falling off.

They are locked down on the rez can you blame them we gave them small pox in blankets years ago the fishing on roosevelt is just as good if not better the problem with hating on the tribes is most of those fish were raised on the rez. I've got over 30 Spokane  tribe tagged fish this winter yet to catch a WFDW tagged one. Anyone catching salmon on the Columbia should say made on the rez.

Thanks for the info.  Buckcanyonlodge, those are some fatties.  I'm gonna get out over the holidays.  Best tasting fish around.  I filet them, and can peel the skin right off after they've been frozen.  Lots of fat under the skin.  Taste great deep fried!

Well, just one.  My brother-in-law caught one. Pretty slow. We only fished for 4 hours.   Still fun.  Nice day.
