Greetings,
For Pre Christmas, Santa brought me a Leupold RDS for my duty AR15. Once in hand, I'm a bit puzzled.
The unit has 8 brightness settings. The calibrated turret and made in the USA (I've had enough of sending my money to China) were the main points along with of course the Leupold warranty.
Once in hand however, I've found that it has a very distinct "halo" effect on every setting beyond 3. The crisp 1moa dot grows into a star burst. Imagine if you used a stencil to spray paint a crisp round dot. You remove the stencil and your dot is just a dot; crisp and defined. This is like painting a dot without the stencil, you can tell where the center is, but there's no distinct edge to the dot, it only fades off, not a crisp edge.
I sent the unit off to Leupold who after a couple of weeks sent it back as repaired. I can't tell a difference from before to now.
So, my question to those who have one is this. Is this normal for the RDS line?

Thats normal to me on all lighted optics to some extent.
When was your last eye exam? Thats what an astigmstisim looks like!!
Could be just that scope too I guess, but I was shocked when i found out how bad my eyes sight was. Always seemed good until they corrected it and I got to see the difference!

One of the few things I still have it 20/13 vision. I should have mentioned that others looking at it at the range also remarked how fuzzy it was compared to other red dot optics in use.

I haven’t messed with any of leupolds rds. I have been using an aimpoint for years and the main reason is I do have astigmatism in my dominant eye and the aimpoint still shows a clear dot for me.

Get an aimpoint or trijicon
