anyone carry a gun while shed hunting? I normally carry a pistol for snakes and such and depending on the area I'll carry a rifle for coyotes.
-
you shouldn't need a rifle for coyotes, unless your going small game...my opinion, not exp.
and snakes...you leave them alone, and they'll leave you alone...the worst your gonna find is an over gown, venomless gradner snake.
-
a rifle everyonce in a while for coyotes..that is if i feel like hunting em while im shedding....most the time nothing.
-
I don't leave my house without a sidearm, certainly don't enter the woods without one. You never know what you may run in to; bear, big cat, rabid coyote, tweakers, you get the point.
-
I carry when Im shopping,shed hunting,dinning :IBCOOL:
-
I carry a side arm THE HILLS HAVE EYES :yike:
-
I don't. I probably would carry though if I owned a pistol. I have had that "somethings watching me" feeling more than once. I have bumped into a handful of bears but they always turned and burned if they saw me, cats just watch, and tweakers don't go where I go.
-
i carry a raging bull 44 mag...
-
Carry a rifle makes it more fun if the shed hunting turns into just hiking with no sheds showing up then you can start looking for yotes too.
-
Sometimes I carry my 40 S&W Glock, sometimes I don't. Just depends on my mood I guess. :dunno:
-
.45 glock always.
-
I carry a sidearm every time I go shed hunting. You never know when you are gonna run into a cougar, rabbid coyote, etc. When I am shed hunting, I am out there to shed hunt, not to kill anything (but I would shoot a cat if it was within pistol range). Just my :twocents:
-
Never know when youll see a wolf ;)
-
I always carry a side arm. I 'd rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it!!!

-
always carry a rifle. One time I didnt and I had two easy shots at coyotes. I was not happy.
-
i carry my 44 and my bow. bow for regular old stump busting and the 44 for those larger, more menecing stumps. 8)
-
I always carry my 45, You never know when you might be the next meal for a crazy cat. These days I see cat tracks in almost all the shed hunting spots that I go to.
-
Kimber .45 everytime i go outdoors , if i feel like hunting, i'll take my .220 swift for yotes.
-
Hell ya,I always take my 9mm. I"ve come across fresh cat kills more than once. I know they are watching me. :yike:
-
I usually always carry a sidearm with me and I normally take my dog as well. I had always thought I carried the pistol to protect myself, but I went shed hunting last week and had forgot my pistol at home, once we were in the field I began seeing a lot of coyote tracks and found myself keeping my dog very close.............so maybe it isn't actually me that I am worried about protecting:dunno:
-
found 2 rattlers last year. we could see mt rainier from the spot.i always have a gun. always

Where do all of you have these encounters with tweekers in the woods? I have never run into any. And would like to know what areas to avoid.

Are you talking about bad a$$ skills or about packing heat?
-
I long ago got out of the practice of packing a pistol while hiking, campimg, etc. But ever since that father-son duo left that poor cross country skier for dead this past winter I am back to having it on my hip. This happened not far from where I live and they really tried to kill him, for his car keys. I've been out twice this spring and it's with me. Not worried about what's in the woods, just what's at the trailheads you know ?
-
Just picked up blackhawk in 41 mag, now try and find ammo
-
never go without without me trusty blackhawk 44 mag. :guns:

if I am in the woods when it's not hunting season, I carry my Super Blackhawk 44. mag. You should have seen the granola eaters faces a few years back when my wife and I hiked the spider gap, image lake loop. My mag has the long barrel and it was strapped to my back pack frame, they all looked disgusted or scared as they hiked on by us. :)
