Title: Mexico fishing advice
Post by: fillthefreezer on February 02, 2021, 09:38:03 AM
Hey everyone, I’m looking for advice on how people go about booking GOOD fishing in Mexico. I’ve been a few times and I’m not expecting miracles, I’m there to primarily spend time with family, so it may not be the best possible timing, but I would like to catch some fish. Have you found a way to avoid the Mexican boat ride? We typically go to PV but will be in mazatlan this year in December so any recommendations as well. Thank you!

Research it beforehand.  If you pick some guy off the beach, you're probably going to end up with some guy off the beach.

I'm not familiar with Mazatlan, but check out places like Bloody Decks for recommendations.

Haven't gone out of Mazatlan in long time, but did well last time I went. If I can't get a good recommend on an area I try to wander down to the docks about the time the charters are coming in and see who did well and talk to some of the clients that were on board. I think the charters are still at half capacity and bookings are slow, so can be easier to negotiate a trip out. Try to be specific on what you want to catch and don't act like a "newbie" who'd be happy with just a nice boat ride. That 7-10 quarantine when you get back to the states will hopefully be off by then.  Don't book a short trip as it restricts them when the better fishing is long ride out. We usually go to Cabo now as I've consistently had better trips out of there and flights in and out are better.
