Title: Kokanee Reports
Post by: salt n sage90 on February 18, 2021, 01:40:51 PM: I know there a few avid kokanee addicts on this forum. I bought a boat (16ft Lowe) this past summer and have been spending the fall and winter getting things sorted. Excited to get out on Samish, Cavanaugh, Stevens, etc. Starting a thread for reports for when it starts to heat up. Feel free to share pictures, rigs, depths, lakes, and anything else you want to. I just figured it would be fun to see the different size and quantity coming from different bodies of water this spring and summer, as it seems to be a cyclical process in every lake.

Kokes were my favorite fishery as kid. I used to knock em dead in the local haunt. Good luck this year fellas

Post by: salt n sage90 on March 04, 2021, 09:51:14 AM: Fished Lake Samish for from 9am - 2:30 pm on Saturday. C&R'd one 10" kokanee. Marking lots of fish at the north end down near the Thermocline @ 90' but no takers. Water is still cold. Talked to some guys that have been hitting it every weekend for a month and they said they pick up a couple a day but its not hot yet.

Boat ran well once it got started with the old fuel in the carb that I left in all winter :/
Experimented with side planers and shuttle hawks to fish 4 rods. There's a learning curve in a smaller boat.

Picked up two in a couple hours on Stevens Saturday. Both were pretty small and got released.

I am relatively new to this fishery but I have never seen so many fish jumping. I literally had one jump and hit the side of my boat. Hundreds of fish on the surface. All seemed to be on the small side.

Most boats I talked to had gotten a couple. One had a handful, everyone was saying they were small.

sled, got any wisdom to share?

I have heard that but this year seems to be much smaller than last. I haven't gotten one that is in the double digits for length this year.

Last year my average fish was like 11 or so. Biggest was 17. My main line snapped trying to release from the rigger. cranked up the ball and the line was still in the release. Handlined the fish in over the stern and nearly fell overboard when I saw it.

I caught probably about 30 or so last year and only remember one or two a bit bigger than the stocker trout size.

Post by: salt n sage90 on June 08, 2021, 04:25:46 PM: Went out on Samish friday. After 4 hrs of fishing we had 16 kokanee in the boat and had missed or lost that many as well. Pretty small fish 8"-13", though they seemed bigger a bit deeper.

Post by: allen on June 08, 2021, 04:37:30 PM: Yale two weeks ago started at eight, limited about 1:00 but noticed most boats heading in around 11:00. Small fish.

Last week started at 7:00, windy, almost white capping. By 9:00 had five, wind died off to tabletop & only caught one more in three hrs. Tried deeper, tried longer line, tried different lures, altered trolling speed, nothing worked.

Tomorrow is another day!
