Ok so my regular partner doesn't think he can go this weekend...
Not sure I'll be inviting him at all next year.
But the wife just called to say that she got Friday off and wants to go with me (reads: doesn't want me to be bummed out around the house all weekend) she's never been out and I'm not sure about it.
I know she'll keep up in the woods, but I'm not sure if she'll be into the cold wet weather and the tent pitched in it. What does everyone think? Should I take her to Joe's tonight to put the girl in camo and see if she can hang, or do I consider heading out alone?
-
I say take her with ya...my girlfriend goes with me all the time hiking and hunting..she gets a little cold but it is a great time. She carry's her camera and takes great pics while we are out...Hunting alone is pretty boring for me so i suggest it...good luck..Justin

 Uhhhhh.....thats a no brainer. Take her hunting!
-
You know better than we. It's a fine gesture, one she should be complimented for regardless of whether you take her or not. However, after a couple hours in a sleet/slush wind driven slog will she be saying, "isn't this silly can we go back now?" or will she tough it out?
I'd far rather a friend bailed on a trip with me than I was hunting with someone that nagged and whined till I wished I hadn't come. Which one do you have if the weather chips are down?
-
Your marriage is worth far more than your hunting adventure. This is a PRIME oppurtunity. One of the best and I mena best out of MANY great experiences, was guiding my wife to her first elk. I know you may not be doing this particular thing, but it might yield something similiar. HAVE FUN. Besides, the sleeping bag is alot warmer.
-
the last thing i would do is bag out because i have to go alone. i'd much rather go alone than not go at all...that said...my wife flyfishes with me and i enjoy the time i spend with her fishing. if you think she can handle it, take her. if you think she's gonna piss and moan the whole time and not enjoy it, then leave her at home. definitely take her next general season when the weather is nicer and make sure she has a genuine interest in being out there, then throw her into the N.E. washington late rifle season weather, cold, snow, rain, etc if she still wants to go.
-
If she is into it take her, she will either love it or never volunteer to go again. Besides the nights are getting longer, could be a good thing. Good luck. :IBCOOL:

My wife has been out a couple opening days, good fun. Just don't talk to her too much if she's not an early AM person before shooting light!!
;D
-
Definitely great advice... and really what I was hoping to hear!
She's a tough girl, I've got her into fly fishing some recently and she digs that. She's good enough not to whine if the weather is bad and still want to be out there, I know that much. Having her there though may make me more akin to packing it in in if its pissing hard and such.
Oh man is my buddy gonna be ticked off if he ends up coming out Friday night... He's got a thing about girls in deer camp! He's even told me he would never bring his daughter if he had one. I was like, "then you won't be around my camp if I have one. Its a family affair for me."
Thanks again guys... This forum has been so helpful to me over the last month or so. I hope I get lucky this weekend, and that the wife gets some good pics!

i think his mind would change if he had a daughter.
take the wife, don't worry about the buddy.

Get a new buddy. I'm again glad you have your priorities straight with family.
-
dude, take this seriously, make sure she is warm and cozy. have a back up plan in case she really does not want to sit in the woods and freeze......a book knitting...anything. If she likes to hunt the way you do, good.....if not have plan "B".
Good Luck.
-
Take it all the advice and work it for your situation, but be prepared to have more of an "armed scouting" session if things go bad. Ease her into it and she may become the only hunting partner you will ever need.
Good luck.
obtw...am I missing something? Deer hunting this weekend?

northeast units, billy...colville area. whitetails

I see sez the blind man.....thanks.

You don't know how much I envy you if she likes hunting. I'd have some extra cash for a hotel if it gets really cold. You've gotta concentrate on her needs and create a good expreiance for her so that she'll be hooked. Once she's hooked she'll start hackin' the elements and toughen' up if she hasn't already.
I'm heading for the Northeast this weekend and they're calling for snow nest week. Lots of miserable weather should be coming in. Good for the hunt but not so good for a first time hunter unless you get a deer right away.
Good Luck!!! ;)

I say take her! You'll probably be eating a lot better with the wifey then u just opening a can of beans :p
-
Quality time with your wife, and you get to hunt deer too! So what if it's somewhat less than your ideal hunt; think of it as working on strengthening your marriage - AND you might get to kill a deer! If she's volunteering, that's a no-brainer in my book.
It's been 8 years since my wife's health got too poor for her to want to go hunting any more, and I certainly treasure those memories now!
-
Whats most important is that she wears a barbie doll in Camo Booty pattern, and the sleeping bags are zipped together. You'll get horn for sure.
-
Took her to Joes last night after some dinner out...
She's got a little camo, and I said don't spend too much, I'd rather you just wear the snow clothes that are warm and will keep her dry then blow a load on gear she may not use again. Got a 0 degree bag for her (it'll zip to mine!) so nights should be OK. I was like a little kid in a toy store there last night, but we kept it down to a minimum with the purchases; just some cover over type camo pants, new thermal undies, orange plastic vest, and hand warmers. We looked at boots, but she's going to make due with the low top Sorrel type thing she has. She wanted bear spray, i told .30 06 rounds are good bear spray and she finally conceded there.
We're rolling out tonight after work, if all goes smoothly should make camp tonight in the rain around 12:30. Grab a couple of hours of sleep, and start marching around.
Thanks again everyone the advice on this topic and others has really helped me keep my head up this year. Wish us luck!
-
