Currently I have a combo of a 42" Toro that mows lawns and pulls a little cargo trailer for dirt/weeds/whatever, and also an older Simplicity that drives a tiller and I did get a blade on craigslist that works decent.
Goal is to replace both of these with one new or newer unit that is built to last and starts without all the effort it takes to get the simplicity to run.
Would love input from others that have bought a lawn tractor, any brand. Smaller than a full on tractor but built to last unlike the normal riding mowers you find in the big box stores.
Would love to have a blade on the front, a PTO for a small tiller would be awesome as well. Right now I am in the looking online and browsing around to see what is available. Soon I need to visit a few dealers like Deere and Husqvarna. not stuck on either of these just familiar with the names.

It would take close to an hour and a half to mow with it. Ended up getting a John Deere 2 series tractor with a drive over 60” mower deck. Cut our mow time down to 35-40 minutes. I would look at getting a unit from a dealer. Either the larger lawn tractors with bigger deck or even a 1 series tractor if you think you could put a front loader to use. I have used my tractor way more than I could have ever imagined.

Had good luck with kubota L series tractors,a couple of them have roll past 10,000 hours on the tach with bare minimum maintenance
Impressive! JD tractors (not mowers) are better than they used to be but can’t rivsl that durability. But nothing like JD green :tup:

I have about 2 1/2 acres of lawn / pasture to mow, some on a fairly steep slope. The best thing I did for myself was splurge on a Deere GX 355 with diesel engine and 54” deck. Mowing time dropped from over two and a half hours to just over an hour. Power steering, hydroststic transmission, traction lock. Sweet.

Yes youd pay tax but if you ever sold it youd reap that back, and dealer and parts support if needed.
O for 84 and no tax if you want to drive to Astoria.

I mainly just need to mow and once every 4-5 years a blade for pushing snow would be nice. I am still on the fence regarding the tiller, recent changes to my gardening methods may have just about eliminated the need for tilling. Could just rent one every 2-3 years when needed and not have to store and maintain it.
Now what I really need is a new metal shop to store more stuff, then I bet I could talk myself into all kinds of purchases. :chuckle:

Really like some of the compact tractors but I know there are areas they cannot mow how I am setup and would still need a smaller mower, so for now avoiding that path.
Think the search is now moving to the best mower that will do what I need and handle a front blade. I need to walk around the property to figure out any tight spots which may influence the size of the deck. Thinking 48" minimum at the moment will grow depending on measurements, and a bagging system. The john deere 300 series look pretty good at this point but still researching.
