I know it’s that time of year because these are the only couple of months that I get PMs.... :chuckle:
Historically late dates this year...what are your plans?
-
I am 90% sure that I will attempt to relocate this guy from last year. I think he’s young and the kind of deer that could blow up. However, I do have the points to get into a decent 2nd or 3rd season hunt. Hmmmm?

Going to try and cash in 11 points on a 3rd season hunt. Hope it works out.
That buck looks awesome.
-
CO is a tough call this year. Lots of big deer could die on 2nd season this year if the weather hits. Especially with the later muzz dates some deer might slip through the cracks in the early season. Of course this is all speculation :chuckle: how many points are you sitting on? I'm not sure points even equate to better quality these days, if you have a line on a buck with that potential it'd be hard not to go look for him! I say flip a coin :chuckle: I had every intention of doing a 2nd season this year but that went down the drain with the whole preggo wife thing

You are spot on regarding 2nd season this year in some of the superior genetic areas! Could be one for the ages!
-
With 15 points, I may go 2nd season myself!
-
It is going to be very interesting to see how the draw goes...point leap (not creep) might be the more appropriate terminology!
-
Have 7 pts this year and I do think many units I could normally draw I won’t be able to this year. Will wait to cash them in in a year or two and hunt WY this year instead with 7 pts and hopefully elk and antelope as well.

I have a cousin who is putting down an offer for a ranch in CO, when is the deadline for getting points for deer/elk??
-
I’m in with 9 this year. With point who knows what, nothing is remotely guaranteed but you gotta play to win. Good luck to you all
-
I got 1 point I’m hoping to draw a second rifle hunt, but who knows how the draw will creep. Everyone is assuming major point creep this year, but I don’t think it won’t be as bad on 2nd rifle hunts. I keep looking at muzzy hunts thinking they will be overlooked :dunno:. All the options in Colorado always make for an exciting application to submit!
-
Here’s another one that should still be kicking around. I hope to relocate him as well.

Stud bucks jj I’d be going back to that area as well!

Wow... that's a great buck! I burned my points a couple of years ago and will probably regret it, but I'll just collect points for another year and am going to skip Colorado this year... these date changes are going to mix things up.
-
I have 14 points. I wish I had 7, or....24. Theres realistically only a couple of third season hunts I could possibly draw without "wasting" a load of points.

You have a ton of great options, IMO points don't correlate that directly to quality. A 15 point hunt isn't automatically better than a 10 point hunt. Don't think of it as wasting points, or feel like you have to spend exactly 14 to get your money's worth. That's an easy trap to fall into. I look back now at how much I stressed about spending 10 and realize it was silly. FYI I spent them on a 6 point unit and killed a great buck. :twocents:

Post a pic! I know using 8 pts was torture a few years ago!!!
-
Can you just buy points or do you have to buy a license ?
-
I've got 4 and am exploring my options. JJ I cant believe you passed that buck, I would have shot him and yelled so loud you would have heard me back in WA.
-

You have to buy atleast a small game licsence and habitat stamp to apply for a point if remember right. I think its around $100 for a point.
-
JJ, some incredible bucks you got on those pics!
I got 8pts built up and am going to try and commit to hunting CO for the first time in 2022. Never hunted out of state before, so I'm excited.

Great for me anyways, average by your standards JJ :chuckle:
-
Looks like a great buck to me! Thanks for posting!
-
Deadline is hours away, I rolled the dice and hope point creep(leap) doesn't bite me.
-
I project many hunts will take 4-8 more points to draw, if not more. :twocents:
-
I did 0 research and applied for deer elk in some units my brother just moved to. Big time on rolling the dice.

I’ve never spent so much time trying to decide how to use 2 pts! :chuckle:
Big bucks!

What units?
-
I screwed up and being the first time I applied for points in CO, I didn’t realize the deadline was 8 MT time. My future son in law missed out getting points by 20 min.
-
I put in for a 12 point unit with 15 points. Fingers are crossed.
-
I can't wait to pour over all the data after the draw. I think there's gonna be some crazy jumps but I don't think there's gonna be the across the board jump like some are saying. Theres just so many points in the system. Good luck to everyone gunning for tags.
-
Even with great season dates this year decided to go with points for Deer/Elk & Antelope. Good luck to everyone in the draws.
-
Colorado Big Game Appl period extended to April 9th. Wow! For those of you that missed the April 6th deadline.

It’s complete BS. Next it’ll be a redraw! lol
-
volume-related technological issues...I'm no mathematician, but that doesn't bode well for odds :chuckle:
-
Well that’s not good
-
700,000 applications, wow. 2019 was 587,450
-
WOW
People need to get back to work and get off of that free money
-
Makes me feel like we’ll have a snowball’s chance in hell in Montana this year!😂
-
I already was doubting I'd draw. Now, I'd say pretty slim chance. I only had a couple points to spare with the creep. Next years dates are only one day earlier, so maybe next year, if theres any big bucks left. If I had some time to scout that far away, I'd do the early rifle hunt for sure. Im thinking I'll still have the chance to decide to do that next year.
-
The increase in apps across the west is mind blowing. Just about every state is up significantly. Getting to draw tags is getting exponentially harder by the year it seems.

Thank YOU  everytime I think im wasting time on this site something valuable pops up :chuckle: my cc didnt go through and I thought I was sol. Just getting some points but it would have seriously screwed up my potential plans for next year which my cousin who is a resident assures me I will get with another point this year :chuckle:
-
I doubt you're assured anything with just one more point.
-
Just thinking though, I would think a lot of the new applicants will have 0 points. They wont have a large impact on draw odds in any units other than the 0 point units. What will cause the biggest shift is the guys in no mans land points wise dropping down to the "mid tier" units. I'm in for a 2-3 point unit with 6.
-

I agree but my cuz said I will get for sure ha ha. Will see

CO is hitting cards for deer. Good luck everyone.

Boom!

Card got charged today!

Boom, we drew 3rd season also.
-
No CC hit yet, my gamble might not have paid off.
-
Got our points, hunting my cousins ranch next year with any luck!
-
No hit yet here :dunno:
-
Id not be expecting a CC hit this late. Unless your CC info is incorrect or something, deer is done.
-
:bash: nothing yet!

Probably Right!
-
Ding on 0 pts, surprised it didn't jump more.
-
Looks like I get a 2nd choice muzzleloader deer tag in the area I have the holdover any weapon moose tag in. Now If I see a buck I cant turn down while hunting moose with the muzzleloader I'm good to go.
-
Points are zeroing and updating.
-
Got an OTC elk and deer tag in my pocket! First out of state hunt should be a riot
-
Just got hit for my moose tag.
-
Just got hit for my moose tag.
:yike: congrats! Hope you got a good tag!

:yike: congrats! Hope you got a good tag!
Unit 28, I actually drew the tag last year but was able to hold it over due to the fires. Now I'll have a deer tag in my pocket while I hunt the muzzleloader season and if I don't score with the muzzleloader then I'm hunting moose with the rifle.

Outstanding man!!!! Hopefully they open it back up. I hear its still closed down due to soil erosion risk?

I have been selling some timber lately with the prices the way they are so I decided to splurge and go guided. Talked to the outfitter this morning and it sounds VERY promising.
-
Well played! There should be some stellar bulls around with no pressure last year
-
Deer tag not awarded, the hype was real for Colorado deer. Oh well Wyoming application time

Congratulations sounds like it should be an awesome hunt!

I dont think it is as bad as people made it out to be. Some units will be wild but I know quite a few folks now that pulled tags with normal points. Ive said it all along, there's only so many points in the system. Its impossible for everything hunt to creep. Id be will to bet that some hunts actually got easier to draw.

I didn't think we'd draw on 0 but we did, last year was 70% chance on 0 so I figured this year would be 1 or 2 points. Really interested to see how some of the mid tier 6-12 point stuff did though
-
I have a list of like 40 units I'll be checking. Im legitimately more excited to see the stats than I am the actual draw results for this year :chuckle:

Hey guys, did I mention yet that I won't be in Colorado this season due to going on ANOTHER mountain goat hunt in Alaska!? :hello:

Huh? Karls going goat hunting again...? Hadnt heard that. :chuckle:
-
no draw for me. looks like ill take my 10 points and try again next year! ( honestly, youll never hear me hope to not draw, but after drawing our montana combo tags with my dad, id much rather spend my time there with him this year. only time youll hear that from me!)
-
Gunnison 3rd season here. A nice retirement gift. Plenty of time to deal with it!
-
We drew bull elk archery, only know because bank account took the hit, site still says "entered"
-
drew 4th season deer tag, going to be a combo deer/elk hunt with my kids, looking forward to it
-
Congrats and good luck to all who drew.
-
Congrats to everyone who drew and good luck during what looks to be some great 3rd and 4th season dates... I got exactly what I put in for.... a bunch of points.. :chuckle:
-
Draw report is out...some interesting data. My 3rd season tag from last year jumped by several points...makes me feel good about my decision to cash in anticipating a big jump in 2021 :IBCOOL:
-
Point creep got me, had I gone with my 3rd option I would have drawn though.
-
25 went backwards :o
-
I was banking on a zero point archery tag as my 2nd choice and didn't even get that! Trying to figure out what to do with my 2 weeks off in September
-
@kurt_s wait until the leftovers hit in august and be on the phone early. usually some good tags left over to snag
