Title: Selling Reloaded Ammo
Post by: GWP on March 07, 2021, 07:51:49 PM
So a Buddy came over to buy a 16 gauge MEC 650 from me to start reloading. I was showing him my Non Tox reloads, and he talked me into selling him those instead. I got to thinking about it, and am not sure if it was a good idea.
I had, at one time, thought about ‘teaching’ people how to reload, which actually means in reality they would be loading their own shells using my equipment, making any ‘issues’ on them as they were the ones that loaded them.
I have the stuff set up so it could be mobile. Maybe even just sit at the range doing it? At the time I was set up for 19 different calibers, including 20, 16, and 12 gauge. Would a mobile reloading set up work? Or be popular?

I have done a few rifle rounds for friends in the past.
With that said ,in the past I would give them min charge or right in the middle of min and max charge to reloading book.
Then the standard sammi spec COAL ,So really they could of got better rounds from just using factory.

Now I don't reload for anybody but me. And the few friends I have tried to send them down there own road of reloading.
I will sell them some components if they need it.
But I don't reload for anybody but me these days.
And I never sold them or charged money for them,it was more of a gift. But just like anything it started to turn into expecting it and more of a job .So I put an end to that.

Birddogdad beat me to it. I think you need a class 6 ffl (ammo manufacturer) license if I remember correctly? I looked into it years ago and deemed it not worth it.

Not sure ‘sell’ that I used was the best description as he paid for the materials used. The ATF link goes to a ‘sign in’ link, but I will go read it somewhere.
That was my thought about the ‘teaching’ thing. They do the loading, but would be ‘renting’ the equipment and supervision? Not sure how that would work. Not seriously considering it, but did think about it at one point.
Sent a PM on the loader.

Found it and read it. In part:
It specifies ‘for profit’, but makes a person exempt of much of the regs, and, states they consider the ‘customer’ the reloader, if you are reloading a hull the customer provides and returns the same reloaded hulls to the customer!
I found that pretty interesting!

i think the "gummit" would consider any exchange of money "profit" or tax reportable ect….

so... someone else's gun blows up because of reloads.....  That's why I don't let others shoot my reloads.

:yeah: :yeah:....even if it were not your reloads that caused it.  They could fall in the mud and have an obstruction that caused it and they would blame you and your reloads.  Any reloads that go out the door are given away as components only....with the very specific instruction of not to shoot them but pull bullets and start over.

I will help friends reload, but I do so for free and they do the work.  I just teach them the process.
