It's going on a small 14' boat with 20hp tiller. I bought an $89 dollar Lowrance hook from walmart, but thinking about it I want GPS as I fish lake Roosevelt and want to mark my walleye spots.
Going to return the Lowrance, I didn't even open the box.

Pretty tough to do. The hook reveal has gps and should be sub 300.
Or buy something used. The older HDS models can be found for 200-300.

Mark your spots with OnX or some other phone GPS program. I have all kinds of random stuff saved on OnX, I pop it open whenever I need it.

:yeah: I've been using Navionics and I'd recommend it to anyone who fishes.

I have a Garmin Striker 4 which I like. Has sonar, GPS (waypoints and tracks), temp, speed, etc. It does not have charts.
I also have navionics on my cell phone which basically gives you everything but the sonar. It also gives you nautical charts. Navionics is pretty cheap.

I'm downloading navonics
In app purchases, this for maps?

I decided to keep my non-GPS hook and use my phone, so I can use it in Dads boat too.

Another benefit is when your fishfinder abruptly dies you don't lose all your spots. With some apps, it's stored up in the cloud so you can always get them back. I lost a bunch of magic sockeye spots on Lake WA....ok, probably not the best example of a big loss.

I bought the upgraded navonics, sync in the cloud.
Wifi to Dads much nicer fish finder too.
