Anyone familiar with programmers and deletes and all that non-Ford-dealership-I-know-nothing stuff?
We have a deleted truck here and it's un-programmed. It's totally de-rated and won't hardly move. The owner doesn't have the programmer and we're lost. I'm assuming we can buy a programmer and reprogram it but this is out of our normal range. Who do I call or where do I order one at? What do I need to know?
It's a '17 6.7 F350

I can only suggest trying to find a diesel perf shop that is willing to go down that road. :dunno:
-
Your best bet is probably to throw a Duramax in it.
Sorry. Couldn't help myself.

New computers? I know a guy that ordered a new truck and he wanted 360 degree cameras. After it left the factory they discovered somewhere along the line that it didn't have the cameras so they were installed. After he got it it wouldn't run right at all. Don't know how long it was at the dealer. He finally got Ford to buy it back but they found out after the cameras were installed it didn't have the right computer(s). :dunno:

Well it must have been programmed or you wouldnt have it right? Did you'all reflash it? Can your ford software disable egr and such so it can run on stock flash? Or buy a tuner with the deletes disabled stuff.

One of the other teams here did a recall on it reprogramming the PCM and didn't realize(or pay enough attention to realize) it's deleted. I got sucked into it because my guys and I do most of the truck stuff here. The guy bought it this way and doesn't have a programmer. We were thinking he could buy a programmer and reprogram it correctly but nobody is 100% sure as we don't normally deal with this stuff here.

My buddy has the ez linx I believe for his 2018 that is deleted. He mentioned having to sign up with a programmer for it. You tell them the specs of the truck and they write the tune and email it to you then you put it on the truck.

Would very much suggest looking into "DP Tuners." They have been in the game a long time and will match a tune specifically to whatever you have done to your truck. Good people with good support too.

I think it could be locked by the tuner. Possibly need a new ECM
-
yes, i see that you have 3 outcomes.
locked by the tuner not being there.
needing a new ECM.
Most probable is needing the tuner or programming to make it run.

Since it is deleted and was programmed when they did the reflash on the truck it took it back to factory settings and writing. It is now in limp or depowered mode. You are going to have to get a programmer and reprogram it with the right software. The issue comes with what did they do to delete it? Did they just remove some emissions and program it to fool the computer that it was there or did they write a complete tune and if they did what was deleted and what was left.
Find a shop, there have been some talked about on here, have it taken there and pay the bill and wash your hands of it. It sucks and more than likely won't be cheap but if you buy a programmer and try to do it yourself and don't program it correctly you could have all sorts of driveability concerns, up to and including engine failure.
Just my :twocents:

Yep I fully understand why it happened. Was just curious if anyone had any insight as to how to reprogram it. I sent it to a diesel shop this morning on the hook to get it handled. It's only going to cost like $800.00 :chuckle:
Thanks y'all.

Is that something your shop will eat or will that be passed on to the owner of the truck?

I’m going to guess yes. Could be out of warranty already and as a big dealer they are not on the hook for reprogram. 800 is cheaper then the other bill they could get

Yeah... we’re not interested in pissing people off for something they didn’t cause...aftermarket crap or not. Would have been good if he would have said something but it’s pretty obvious it’s a tricked out truck. We’re eating it as one of our guys wasn’t bright enough to realize the truck was deleted and caused it all by doing the PCM software update recall. One of my guys would have caught it but it was one of the other teams here....
So a $300 tow bill and whatever it costs. Dude from the diesel shop just called. Said we got lucky because it had an “Ngauge” program in it and apparently the little gauge pod on the A pillar stored the tune software so they were able to just reload it. It won’t be $800.
I have zero clue for the most part how any of this aftermarket stuff works. Just happy it’s fixed. Thanks for all the info and attempts at assistance. We appreciate it.

Sounds like you got lucky! Glad it worked out. A lot of tuners out of business because of EPA crackdowns.
