Lucked out and drew Kelly Hill for spring. Never been in that unit so if anyone wants to toss any hints out that would be great. Any 'go here' or more importantly "don't go there" would be much appreciated. Either way, no better way to learn an area than with a rifle in your hand and a tag in your pocket. Looking forward to getting boots on the ground and seeing what I can find.
Congrats to all the others who drew tags. I'll be up there in a red Ram 2500 with 'elk' plates. Hope to see some folks up there.

What's your hunt window? Start studying maps and consider getting an access permit for Inland Empire land. Early season with good tires, you can make it 50 yards further than the grader on the good roads. Later, it's not so bad. Spend enough time, you'll see bear sign throughout the unit. Focus on where you find the feed and fresh sign. A lot of the area, you won't have a cell signal. Load your maps, practice calling, and get some mud on your boots. Need a hand packing, I'll be in the area a good share of the time.

Thanks for the pointers. First trip will be first weekend in May on what started out as a turkey hunt and has now changed a bit :) I should be able to swing at least two 3 or 4 day weekends and maybe 3 throughout the rest of the season. Hopefully that will give me a good opportunity to find something. Hadn't really thought about calling, but that is something else to work on. Was looking up the IEP passes this afternoon. Will have to take a closer look at those areas.

Check here. Don't believe that Northport is an option currently. Spokane or Deer Park are likely the closest. Might call to confirm.

Thanks!

I will be up there in a black Ram 1500. Probably go up right before the season to get the lay of the land & check out a few spots I have pinned. Then a few 3-4 day weekends as the season progresses.
I'll help on pack outs if needed.

Didn’t have the permits last year in north port. Wanted to hunt that area.

With me wandering around in the woods there is a really good chance I will be scaring critters into a lot of adjacent units.

Just whack a biggen

First bear I seen the last year was a grizzly.

Killed my first two bears in that unit in the fall of 1994 & fall of 1995. Lots of fond memories chasing bears and spring gobblers!! Good luck you guys!!

Got to finish the final chapter in this story by getting my bear mount home last weekend. For any interested in how it turned out you can check it out in the taxidermy thread. Post by BlackRiver Taxidermy.
