Title: Youth Float
Post by: Platensek-po on March 11, 2021, 12:08:30 PM
Hey guys!  My son turned 10 got his hunter ed card and wants to get out for the Youth turkey season. I am considering taking him down the Klickitat in my raft for a couple nights and chasing turkeys. Water level permitting. I want to put in at Leidl and Float to Icehouse campground. Any complete blockages or anything we should be concerned about in that stretch? I have years guiding whitewater and well over 2kmiles behind the oars of a raft but I have never floated this section before. Any advice would be great!
Thanks!

No advice on the river but sounds like an awesome trip! I would have died to go on a trip like that when I was 10, good luck!

Leidl to Stinson can have lots of braids and changes yearly.  Below Stinson can have issues with log jams and trees.  I doubt anyone's been down it for a while since there hasn't been any fishing seasons since Nov.  You can call Canyon Market in Klickitat and ask Carl.  He's also your best bet for a shuttle.  Watch the flows anything below 2500 isn't too bad.  3000-3300 is the highest I've floated it and it was scary big at times.  good luck
