Title: Henry .44 mag feeding problem
Post by: Mulie87 on March 17, 2021, 09:53:00 PM
I have a new tubular magazine fed Henry Golden Boy .44mag. I took it out shooting for the first time and ran into a problem...it wouldn’t feed. The carrier inside the action doesn’t move, it doesn’t lift and feed the round i to the chamber. I took the action apart, cleaned it and reassembled it, but it still won’t feed. Has anyone else experienced this?

Years back, I had Marlin 1895 where the lift bar or whatever the part is called would not lift the round high enough to allow the bolt to insert the round straight into the chamber. It would load the round cocked at an extreme angle and jam the nose into the side of the chamber wall. Pretty grisly.

In any event, I stoned all the mating surface between the lever, loading mechanism, and action and that smoothed things up and corrected my problems.  I don't know how different the Henry action is, but they are fairly simple machines.

Maybe take it apart and look for burrs or other evidence that would prevent proper cycling.

Barring that and slicking it up with stones, maybe cycle the action empty a hundred times or so, then with snap caps to see if it clears it up.

I’d get ahold of Henry and send it back; especially it being brand new.

I bought the same rifle a few years ago and never had a problem with it. My friend bought one last year and had problems when he tried to cycle a round into the chamber, the lever wouldn't move.  The issue he had was that he didn't have the lever closed all the way when he put the cartridges in the tube.  Apparently the cartridge was getting jammed under the feed mechanism.  After he figured that out he hasn't had another problem, he just needed to make sure to keep the lever closed all the way before loading the tube.

In his case It was a pretty simple problem that was self inflicted.  good luck
