Title: Same Ammo same weight same mfg different FPS
Post by: 10mmg on March 25, 2021, 05:51:54 PM: I recently bought some Nosler 30-06 accubond 165 grain trophy grade. Looking at the part number on the box box it is the same. the boxes look the same except the crowns on the back. The twist is one box claims to be pushing at 2800 and the other box claims 2950. Now I know my 26” rifle pushes the 2800 stuff at 2870 and i know there is some variation from time to time but 150 fps seems like a big variation. Anyone seen that from factory ammo in the past. Not really worried about it as much as i am curious. When i go shoot some of this ammo i will crony it to see what the difference if any there is.

Post by: Stein on March 25, 2021, 05:53:57 PM: I’ve seen it, different velocity, different sku, different model number. Twice I can think of, I emailed and they said it was the exact same, just updating info and marketing.

I have a feeling what they down graded before ,we are paying top dollar.

Post by: Jolten on March 25, 2021, 07:31:06 PM: Sounds like they came from 2 different manufacturing facilities. Each one would proof the round in their test barrel then update the box. Could be varied due to different lots of primers powder etc

Any ammo can have variance lot to lot. That’s why folks tent to buy a large qty of a given lot if it’s found their rifle likes it.
The current market conditions make that hard though.

And that 2950 seems a fair bit peppy. Maybe they used RE26 in the new loads.

Or a lower charge weight on one box to another.
But the only way to know is to pull a bullet from a round from each box and look at the powder and weigh it .
Something does seem a little shady there.
Nosler is greedy as all he'll with those accubond.

Really? Just how much should they make on them? What is the expense on them? How many steps to create them? How many people were and are involved to make them? What are their costs?
I have yet to see any one of my friends or people on forums 'jump into the fray' of making, well, anything, that they 'claim' is making someone rich, or they feel costs too much. I would imagine if they did 'try' on much more that a 'one off' they would get a rude surprise.
Sorry, but this crap just pisses me off... Things go up. Always. I remember .29 cent gas. Doubt it will ever get back to that...

Sorry I pissed you off.
But it just seems if you want to use accubonds,you have to buy factory ammo right now.
Haven't seen any accubond in stock for reloader in a while.
Basically these bullet company make more money off of factory ammo ,and the reloader gets nothing.
I get it ,make the most money off of the products you produce.
But at the same time I will have to switch to hornady,Speer,federal,Sierra, or somebody eles in till the market comes back around when nosler will sell some bullets for reloader.
I'm sorry ,but I do stand behind my comment.
They are greedy with those accubond. :chuckle:

Post by: Bill W on March 26, 2021, 08:31:31 AM: If it was me and I wanted to know the correct answer I'd call Nosler and ask that question. It appears they did not assign a new UPC to the latest box. That would indicate something different. So your best bet is to ask Nosler.

I did see some Accubond (2 boxes) at Sportco in Tacoma, but doubt they lasted long. Don’t remember what they were though. 7mm? I am certain they are gone.
Pinto’s in Renton seemed to have a pretty fair selection of reloading stuff last time I was in there, but it has been weeks, maybe even a month, since I was in there.
