Going after them starting Monday 29. Should be one or two in the area with this little bump in rain. Anybody else?

What area? I’ll be starting when numbers hit around 200 at the damn

Buddies limited on springers this morning. Cathlamet area.
-
I’ll be above lewis below I5. By the time the counts reach 200 a day. The season could be over😢 Good luck guys. Post pics 🤑🤑🤑😉🥃🇺🇸

Oh yeah! I'm setting up the trailer at Columbia Riverfront RV Park and fishing it hard from 3/29 Mon -> 4/1 Thr. Gonna troll past Prescott Beach about 50 times :)
Love hearing reports of limits! And yes, when the dam count hits 200, season = closed.

By the time it hits 200 a day it’s just barely beginning for me 😎. Then it goes until November.

Tuesday & Friday fished St Helens area. Not many boats Tuesday, did not see a net in the air. Friday counted 35 boats, saw two fish. At Cathlament Thursday, they're on their way

Thanks for the report Allen! Heading down to camp today at Columbia Riverfront RV and fish Mon-Thr around Kalama.
-
Thanks Allen.
Going after them tomorrow thru Friday unless life gets in the way.

Well life happens. Started my springer season this morning. About three hours in. Decided to go up river to make another run. My main motor started making weird noises. Didn’t know what it was so decided to come in on the kicker. When I got home put on the Mickey Mouse ears and found out it’s the lower unit. The problem is still unknown🥲😉🥃🇺🇸

Fished out of Kalama Saturday morning, unfortunately I was on call at work and sure enough, I got called out about 11am. We didn't see or hear of any thing until we got to the launch, fish checker had checked a couple.
Going to try again tomorrow and Wed after work and again Sat/Sun, thankfully I'm no longer on call.

Read again folks.

Get some! Guys😉🥃🇺🇸
Forgot to mention seen one caught

I'll trade 100 primers for a pound of springer, seems like they are both worth about $100. :chuckle: Let's see some pics of fish here!

For 100 primers I’ll just go to the store and buy a farmed and raise salmon. Vacuum seal it and send it to your house😂😂😂😉🥃🇺🇸

Farm.Raised.Salmon.
Yikes!
Nothin like a Spring Chinook outta the mighty Columbia

No prob, I have plenty of primers that are in great shape, just a minor dimple on the flat side. :chuckle:
Columbia springers are right up there with black cod for my favorite fish anywhere in the world.
-
Fresh Alaskan sockeye for me. Black cod is damned good to but harder to come by.

Black cod and Columbia River Springer caught in the lower river are my two favorite eating fish by far. We struggled near Kalama, but went down to Cathlamet and hooked 4 fish. Working on the video and blog post. I'm hoping hoping hoping, we get another opener after this expected closure, cause we found a sweet working formula!
-
The fatty had a tough run, amazing how many you see all scratched up.

For me above the damn it’s about 50% have some kind of hole in them.

Nice fish!!!😉🥃🇺🇸

Thanks! I hope everyone had a good springer season. I'm really hoping it will open again in a few weeks! We made a video / updated our blog page with our 2021 results and a few things we learned.
One big change was to use the coldwater strong bumper leaders. Huge huge benefit fishing with that type of setup that's common on the columbia river. No bad tangles and arts / crafts projects!

Very nice fish.
