Who all put in? Good luck to everyone.
Have a buddy, 2 of my kids and myself in for Moose. Ouch on the non-refundable fees!
-
In for moose as a resident for the first time!
-
good luck

+1 for Moose.
-
In for goat again.
-
I’m in for goat. Still long odds though, even in Idaho.
-
Probably less apps better chances with the fat chunks of non refundable now.
-
I hope your right

Isnt it only $35 more nonrefundable? $30 increase in license cost and $5 increase in app fee? This doesnt include the tag price increase.
-
I thought you couldn't apply until June 15th???
-
Due the end of April. Results should be out by may 15

I'm not sure?
I do elk lope deer and not the oil stuff. I have a buddy that put in for moose and he said it was a lot more that they get this year.
Maybe he meant the fee and tag increase?

the tag is a lot more but the only nonrefundable parts are the license and app fee.
-
I went and looked. Looks like hunting license and app fee is 310.00 you don't get back to just apply for moose.
Not including the tag of 2627.00.
So I think thats what he meant that the 310 is a big chunk just to apply.
-
lot of guys already own a license who apply cause they are hunting ID deer, elk or bears
-
Yes indeed. He does not hunt idaho has only been applying for moose :dunno:
-
Well, they swallowed nearly $3K of my money for a sheep tag. Hoping I lose all $3K.
-
I’m in for goat 🤞

Is he buying combo hunting and fishing license? The hunting license for nonres is $185.
-
Hunting/Fishing Combo $264
OIL App $45.75
Total $309.75
-
The big component that everyone is ignoring is the 3% credit card transaction fee on top of the refundable $2,672.50 that is another $80 you don't get back. Add that to the license fee (if you aren't hunting OTC deer/elk/bear) and the application fee and you are close to $300/person. With 3 people in that boat, I am nearly $900 in non-refundable, so hopefully we get lucky.
-
Hadnt thought of that as i have always bought my idaho licenses and everything in person.
-
You buy a hunting license, its your choice if you use it or not. That's not a fee.
-
I never said the license was a fee, just that the cost were non-refundable. There could be years, like for me this year, where I am already committed to Alaska (leave Monday) for Brown bear. As well as Wyoming, Montana and Colorado for deer. So I bought the license but don't have time to hunt an OTC unit, again, the license isn't a fee, but it is a cost that is non-refundable and unless I draw the Moose tag certainly will get no use.
Zero complaint, just the facts. I personally think this increase in tag fees and the 3% transaction fee may help odds of drawing OIL tags even more in Idaho and like it.

The only time you hope to lose money on your gamble!

Yes indeed he does a bunch of fishing but doesn’t hunt much anymore, but still puts in for moose as it’s a dream animal for him.
Didn’t think about the credit card that’s a good point to. So more like 380 he doesn’t get back and ends up with a fishing license. Yikes
-
At least hes getting some use of the fishing license. So not all is lost.
-
Another swing and a miss........ :bash: :bash: :chuckle:

No goat tag for me :(
Wish these other states would learn from Idaho on a quick draw turn around

Flight in, either a float trip or pack trip to get into animals, be in excellent shape. Huge, steep, nasty country.

If going outfitted, I just asked Dave at bighorn outfitters and he suggested Heart X Outfitters or Middle Fork Lodge.

:yeah: Congratulations on the tag ! I have looked at that quite a bit because of good odds. That can be a really tough hunt with pretty low success for a sheep tag. You probably already knew that putting in. wish I had more information for you. Good luck !

I am 42 and in great shape running 6-9 miles a day currently. I was averaging 12-15 miles a day last summer. I am a teacher so I have the time for three months of intense training and prep. I have had success DIY in the past and can’t stomach 10-12k for a guide. This will probably be my last hurrah at a DIY of this nature. Any one want to tag along or go scouting this summer?

You wouldn’t have to pay for a guide. Packer should be 3k or so. Or rent lamas.
Try and contact a bio for more specific information.

 I figured you had a plan! I wouldn't consider a guide if I drew that tag either. Pm me I would be interested in at least comparing notes but I will be checking it out for maybe deer or elk . The plan is to check out some new areas this summer and the very least I would pass on any sheep info I might find

0-3 for our family on Moose.

OMG that would suck!

Can confirm the email. Sadly after seeing it on HuntWa... I checked my email. Going to call them. How are we held responsible for our actions and they not for theirs?

Wait so you are saying you were the one to receive that email? Or did multiple nonresidents get that one?

Whoa!!! That is a huge snafu. That is brutal. Sorry to hear
-
Idaho F&G should step up and make an exception in this case. If they cant give him a tag this year, they should hold a tag from the draw for next year and give it to the individual in compensation. This is a terrible mistake and no one should go through that after being notified they had drawn. Just my opinion.

Dang sorry, that’s a BS way for them to handle that. Must have been quite a few guys in your situation for an email to go out
-
I think if they honored the tags drawn there would be no non resident tags for at least a decade or more, that's not going to happen.
-
As a resident I’m over here wondering when and how they are going to redistribute the tags

Is it just sheep they are having issues with?

:yeah: plus bad way to manage a resource when they have so few tags for a lot of units to potentially take possibly quite a few extra animals out in one year
