Got set up in my blind at about 0445 this morning. Not long after I hear the first gobble of the morning, and it's not far away. As it's getting lighter more and more gobblers are sounding off, then the hens wake up. This is pretty typical so far. I let some tree yelps off and the hens start to answer. As they get louder and more excited, I mimic them. After fly down, the gobblers are really thundering. I hear 2 just below and behind me. I grabbed my box call and let 'er rip. The toms are getting closer. The series of yelps made them fire off in unison....5 yards to my right. :yike: I about fell out of my chair. I still can't see them since I have that side's window closed, but I know they are close. I can hear them clucking. I get my bow ready and clip my release. I know they can see my decoy so I purr and cluck with a mouth call. Nothing. They just turned around and went back the way they came. :bash: Pretty frustrating but it's the closest I've come so far this season. Only a matter of time.

I was lucky enough to harvest this 20-1/4 lb Rio with 9" beard and 1" spurs opening morning about 10:40 am in North Lincoln County. As henned up as they were we found that later was actually better. Good news is that should change and they should be more responsive now and even better in a week. Good luck.

I definitely enjoyed meeting Yelp and the guys, although sorry I missed WaCent and son.
The last evening I should have had my 2nd bird ... saw them coming in ... got the red dot on and (verified the dot was visible) ... took the safety off ... 3 toms closed to 15 to 20 yards ... couldn't find the red dot ... they started putting and then flew out right over my boys head :yike: ... looked again and the red dot was back ... go figure. :dunno: I think I needed a drink ... :bash:. Oh the joys of turkey hunting ... :'(
