Title: scope for my 7mm
Post by: haftard on June 09, 2021, 03:43:00 PM: alright ive got her widdled down to these 3 scopes, Swarovski Z5 3.5-18x44 L BT Riflescope, Vortex Razor LHT 3-15x42 HSR-5i MOA Riflescope, or the Leupold VX-5HD 3-15x44 (30mm) CDS-ZL2.

i really like the price of the vortex and the leupold. i also like the 0 stop they they have. only thing i dont like about the razor is the illuminated redical. i wish they would make one that is nonilluminated and save the 2 or 3 oz.

the leupold has a realy nice 0 stop and as i understand i can send leupold my dope and they will build me a turret. but at the same time i dont like have leupold has mushy clicks and the button feels kinda cheep.

i havent been able to get ahold of the swaro. its lighter by a few oz. no need to get a turret built for it. but for the price diffrence i could damn near get the vortex mounted with rings and a good base.

right now i would say ill only be shooting 400 or 500 yards.

well after typing this all out i think im gonna go with the voretx. i will however take any comments into consideration

Post by: kselkhunter on June 09, 2021, 04:15:03 PM: I have a Swaro Z5 5-25x52 on my 7mmRM and love it. I had custom turrets made for my favorite loads by Outdoorsmans. The Z5s are nice and light, and the best clarity and quality of any of the optics choices you listed.

I have Zeiss on my other rifles, and also love those scopes as well.

I got it at a good price through Leupold. Razor is a nice scope as well. The Swarovski is a really really really nice scope. I would go Swarovski if price didn't matter, otherwise it is a toss up between the other two.

copy on the eyes aren't as sharp...i'm in my early 50's and my eyesight is really going to chit and i have to have a pretty good sized crosshair to see them---keep that in mind---it gets worse every year for me

:yeah: I have a V6 that is crystal clear and solid zero stop.

Post by: Stein on June 20, 2021, 12:47:51 PM: I have the VX5 on my current hunting rifle. It has been flawless for three years, once I sighted it in I haven't had to touch the zero. As mentioned, the zero stop is great, reticle is good and I really have no complaints.

Post by: Jack879 on July 04, 2021, 04:21:32 AM: I’m no expert in rangefinders but what I have been told is that a safe “rule of thumb” is to double the distance you expect to use. If you want reliability at 800 you will do best with 1600x. That was said to me some years ago so with technology I’d bet that can be reduced a bit - say 1200+ would be reliable.

A buddy of mine has that Vortex model. When he uses it to range off of benchrest sized target boards at 1000 it is about 80% reliable. MOA sized steel plates past 700 yards usually need to be sized about 5-6 times to get a good range. Vortex Crossfire (https://theoptics.org/best-rifle-scope-under-200/)actually has a good price.
