Title: Smallies on the snake
Post by: gaddy on June 24, 2021, 05:04:03 PM
Bank fishing. Was tossing Rooster tails and kicked but for awhile. Shallow, using the banks but loosing gear. Went to some double tail grubs and did OK for a bit (Not using a jig, Floating a double tail grub, a foot  behind a split shot along the bank). Getting hits but not hooking up, or am loosing fish. Now using some long worm hooks with the same grubs, hook hanging out the tail end a bunch. The long worm hooks that go through the grubs are not getting a set or staying put. I Know I will loose gear fishing the way I am But when I get a Hookup, I want to get that fish in. Standing knee deep in water, wandering up and down the bank, I would like to get the fish in. Thoughts on Hooks for this type of fishing ?
Just so you know, I really cant complain but would like to do better.

Try a stinger hook.
If they are short striking it should help.

Rigged a stinger up, was just an eagle claw #4 over the existing hook. Seemed to foul the tails every cast.

Try a senko rigged weedless.

:yeah: or a hollow bodied rubber Crawdad Texas rigged. This and crawdad crank baits are always my go to for smallies on the Snake.
