Title: Camping around Loomis
Post by: MHWASH on July 13, 2021, 10:44:16 AM
I wanting to poke around in the Pasayten this fall. I'm looking to do a scouting trip with my wife this summer to get the lay of the land. Because my wife is not a backpacker, I'd like to set up a camp near the wilderness that I can drive to. The area I'm looking at is near Iron Gate Trailhead near Palmer Lake. Anyone familiar with this area?

I have two options, Bring my 31' toy hauler and cruise around on my SxS, or tow my ATV trailer behind the SxS and camp off of it.

Palmer Lake has free campsites on the north end (first come, first served). Nice sites, right on the lake.

There’s campgrounds before Iron Gate road you can get an RV in.

I went thru chopka lake once. Always wanted to go back and camp. Nice campground, and lake, secluded.

One wouldn’t want to take a toy hauler in there.😉

Then there's this to put camping on the "backburner"
