Ran across one with my brother a few years back chasing a doe down the side of a cut. Have see tracks in there but they weren’t super recent

My son in law claimed to see one last night but he isn't the sharpest tool.

I'm going to venture a guess that if there were resident wolves, they'd be captured periodically on trail cams.

As I recall,  the CleElum wolves kept showing up sporadically on trail cams for some years before they were recognized as a pack.

I'd think the same around Packwood.

Certainly plenty of trail cams surrounding Packwood.

Not in over 50 years of being in the area.  Some wolf/dog crosses from the dopers (for some reason wolf pups are the thing with those folks) but never a wild wolf.

100% yes - one time in 1999. Myself and two buddies were camped up on the back side of Hamilton Buttes near Elk Peak. We were target shooting across a clearcut at a bluff when in the dip below us a wolf ran out and directly up the hill. It stopped broadside in plain view and looked right at us for probably 30 seconds and we all said the same thing at the same time. “That’s a $&!@ing wolf!”

The local rumor is that in Randle in the late 80’s or early 90’s ago, some guy had some wolves/wolf hybrids illegally. When he was found out he turned them loose don’t know if it’s true or not, but  I can still remember that mental snapshot precisely and how huge that thing was.

I will definitely keep an eye out the next time I'm in the area.

A lot more than once in the late 1990,s and early 2000's.  Like I mentioned earlier, the meth cookers of the day used high percentage pups for currency generation.  When they got their butts in jail the wolf dogs just ran off and were impossible to approach.  Ditto the Vader, Pe Ell, and, a lot of the east end of lewis county including Mineral and Ashford.  A lot of them either starved or were shot by locals.

Backwood hippies was all the rage to keep wolves, folks shot em when they got loose, they'd chase everything

Ive heard many stories of people seeing wolves in Packwood, white pass, Chinook pass, clockum area. I used to run close to 10 cameras in the eastern cascades (12 years straight) never got a wolf on cam or heard anyone who has.  Anyone know anyone with some trail cam pics? I know there are probably 1000 cams in those hills.

Well, it's a known fact that the Big Foot can smell batteries even upwind and avoids them... :o
