Title: 2020 Lifesize Mt Baker Goat Mount
Post by: JPhelps on August 19, 2021, 08:36:04 AM
When I drew the tag the plan was to push the hunt as far into October as we could to make sure the hair was as long and full as possible. The plan almost backfired as the terrain was treacherous and hard to navigate with snow covered rocks atop of the cliffs. BUT the results and the outcome were worth it. Getting to look at this guy on the wall forever will be a great reminder of the epic hunt.

Travis Roundy knocked this mount out of the park!  He repaired the broken horn, cleaned up and fixed an exit hole out the cheek and made him white instead of brown. The mount just needs a little snow and it will be ready to be shipped back to Washington.

No it broke in the fall.  It only broke the tip of the right horn but there was a small sliver holding it on. We taped it up and shipped it to Travis that way.

That’s awesome! My wife spots them up there dang near every time we are up there. I constantly have to remind her we are not on a goat spotting trip. Glad to see someone harvesting one.

Jason, YOU are the animal!  Did you seriously cart out that beast?  The whole cape, with the head, and then all of the meat?  I hope that you had a small army to help you.

I don’t know about all that. I had 3 other guys with me. Goat hides and the meat don’t weigh all that much though. Just a bunch of “fluff”. Now the terrain still sucked for a pack out.

Good thing there was fog so you could never really see the bottom hahaha, doesn’t seem so far down that way

We did but it’ll never see the light of day. We were turned in earlier in the year on an elk hunt for not having a filming permit and was told not to air the footage from that hunt. So we lost most of our 2021 footage to someone that singled me out. 99% of the YouTube videos need film permits yet don’t ever get them.

Wow really?? You need a permit to film yourself? Was it on public land? That’s a bummer man

Nothing needed for personal use, Jason probably got singled out because his business benefits from his videos. I'm actually surprised he hadn't been confronted by this before now. The agencies actively investigate this stuff, there are quite a few TV shows that have been nailed for not having permits, most probably didn't even know it was a requirement.

Many of the big YouTube hunting channels don’t get permits. We hadn’t until this year (we now have to get them for anything we film, even if we are only standing on public land talking about anything call or product related).

We also heard from rangers they basically get to pick and choose who they go after and what is considered “commercial”.
