I have 250 plated bullets for my 30-30 that I would like to load with something along the lines of unique or trail boss. Curious what people recommend. Mostly I want to get my son practicing using a bigger rifle but with lower recoil loads and work his way up. Do guys prefer trail boss or unique or…?? Any suggestions or tips are greatly appreciated!

Trail Boss is awesome, you can make an incredibly soft load and it wasn't too difficult to find. I had another thread around here for the .243 I did, google Trail Boss reduced recoil and you should find a pdf that gives min and max loads. Essentially, you calculate full case capacity and take a percentage of that as a starting point. Pick the lightest bullet you want and the lightest load they recommend and it'll be a very light shooting round.

I’ve done some messing around with shooter’s world “Buffalo rifle” powder. Supposedly you can use 5744 data for it. They claim that it can be used in nearly everything.
I have had good luck with it in my .375 ruger, pushing 235 speer bullets to around 2000fps. Very accurate and kicks about like a .270 (In my opinion).

I've had good results with Red Dot.
