Nice 5x5 bull road kill on I-5 just south of Grand Mound exit. Antlers clean of all velvet.

I saw that too. Must’ve been a sketchy salvage being right against the median. It was salvaged, though.

I was thinking that also. Many road kill deer in that stretch but to see a bull there was a shocker.

Saw a nice 5x5 on the 10th with velvet hanging,,, last Thursday saw a different bull in the same cut velvet clean.
-
Got Pics of a bull on 8/9 nearly rubbed clean, multiple others held their velvet longer tho.

Was this today? Buddy saw one there last week. Said it looked lik it broke a horn off when it got hit.

I have seen elk there in the past. If I remember right someone was really hurt about 10 years ago from hitting one around there. Not surprised it got salvaged. That's a lot of meat to waste

I saw 2 6x6 bulls yesterday and they were rubbed clean. The 6x7 I saw 2 weeks ago in the same area was full velvet.
-
They’re just finishing up with velvet rubbing. They’ll start gravitating towards the cows within a few weeks. Then, it’s party time.
-
My cameras show them rubbing off Velvet every year in the 2nd to 3rd week of August.

I have a pic of 2 bulls on the 16th rubbed clean, but still with a redish color.
-
I saw 2 young bulls yesterday that where clean.
-
Found a couple rubs yesterday.

I jest got a trail cam pic of a nice bull and buck and the bull does not have velvet but the buck does? I would think the buck would loose its velvet first because it sheds first?
-
FWIW Have 3 bucks visit the yard daily the largest has completely shed and the other 2 have not even started yet
-
Deer seem to always ditch velvet later than elk even though elk shed a month later. Wild how quickly the big bulls grow new antlers in such a short period of time.
-
Yes elk always rub off velvet first. And deer always shed first.
