Prairie Dogs
.224 Valkyrie
Own one? Suggest one? Brand preference? Might do a dog shoot next year and am intrigued by the caliber in a semi auto platform.

Far from an expert here as I've only got 2 days of rat shooting under my belt.
IMO, this kind of application is where the .223 Remington really shines just for pure economy. 55 grainers like V-Max or the Nosler Varmaggedons can really produce some rat popping goodness even if the chambering is "Vanilla". I don't know if prairie dogs is a longer range/lower round count i.e. 300-500 yards game? Suppose the Valkyrie loaded with 88 ELD or the 85.5/90 VLDs would really take over then :dunno:

I'm just here to pipe in support for the "gun for every occasion" mentality :chuckle:

I’ve got a brand new 18” barrel for an AR-10 chambered in .260 Rem if you really want to make them splatter!
-
Built one with my son, all Aero components, it’s a yote nightmare! ;)

Same page. Even a "gun for an occasion that might happen next year."

Personally i think i'd do a 6arc over the valkyrie just for the big game option but sounds like fun either way! Prarie dogs are a blast, my 243 wssm was fed a steady diet of them back in a former life out of state.

If you can find one, a Les Baer Custom in .204 is tough to beat for that application.

204 definitely in the running

6x45? Small and efficient for high volume p-dogging with 55-60 grain bullets. Big game legal and capable with 80-90 grainers.

.223 1-7 twist for the 70+/g

Love my 6x45, took a 212" Mule Deer at 230 yds, went about 6 ft.... Mine is built on a little Sako, Lone Wolf stock, Fluted Lilja 20" barrel.....oh and no recoil
