Title: Stealth Cam at Costco: any good?
Post by: scotsman on September 22, 2021, 08:55:22 PM
Was at the local Costco and saw they have Stealth Cam pxv26 set for $80. The set has camera, batteries, sd card, screw mount and card reader for andriod and / or iphone. Looks like a good deal…. Anyone have experience with this, pro or con?

I bought a pack of stealth cams from costco a couple years ago and won't make that mistake again.  I have never had a stealth cam I liked.....and for reference, I currently run 13 cams and have another 5 in reserve.  Only one of those is a stealth cam for a reason.

Thanks… what are the issues with Stealth Cams? What’s your favorite brand/ model?

Super poor quality picture especially night photos.  Trigger speed was also not good and overall performance just sucked.

In no particular order….

Moultrie (they stopped making my favorite cam).  :bash: :bash:.  Still very solid cams.
Cuddeback are awesome. I run the 20 mp LR and find them in the 80-90 dollar range.
Bushnell is awesome
BOG Clandestine is a super amazing cam but the most expensive.  I run two and wish I had a dozen.

Here is a stupid good deal on probably the best cam I have ever used.  Mine are about 6 months old and I have nothing bad to say about them.  If I had the funds right now, I would buy 5 of these for my collection.  Almost half price.

I have two stealth cams and they work great. Never any issues. Had two Bushnell trail cams that were complete junk. With Costco's return policy, you can try them out this fall and still have 90 days to return them  :twocents:

I agree. If you don't like it simply return it. That's a pretty good price for everything you're getting.  I think I'll give one a try.

I’ve used nothing but stealth cams. Have never encountered an issue. Picture quality has always been fine. I’d buy that camera from Costco with confidence.

I bought that package at Costco about a month ago. I tried it out for a week in my back yard. The camera is very simple and user friendly. The trigger speed is fine and daytime pictures, while not amazing quality are fine for my purposes. The nighttime pictures are bad. I had a hard time distinguishing between a bobcat and a coyote and if the critter is not directly in the center of the photo, you probably won't even know if there's something in the photo. I'm keeping the camera for use around my yard but I wouldn't buy another one.

I also run a lot of trail cameras, 15 out right now. I've never had a bad experience with Stealthcams.

How much are they at costco?

I've had alot of trail cams and the stealth cams I've tried were garbage, I've really had the best luck with moultrie but as stated in an earlier post they no longer make the one I liked the most.

I buy refurbished Stealth Cams from Camofire for dirt cheap and have had zero issues with them.

Trailcam tuesday is tomorrow, check it out.

Follow up: I Bought the Stealth cam at Costco and it seems to work just fine. Just this morning I checked it and have great pictures and video of a buck, three does,  a rabbit and a raccoon under our apple tree. All taken at night. So for the money I’m satisfied.

It would be awesome to see some night photos to see if they have improved over the years.  Maybe a guy needs to be open minded and give them a second chance.
