Well first off got to say thank you to
fishngamereaper and his friend for the help. Last wedsday i was lucky enough to call in a nice bull. Unfortunate that i have not found him still to this day. 4 days of looking and i have turned up nothing. Blood started out really good bright with bubbles. My arrow had the sam blood up about 20" and the first 7" are broken off. Tracked him for about 12 yards and lost sign. Super heart broken over this and can not under stand how such good looking blood and no animal.

Happens a lot w archery, just part of the hunt. You did your best in looking, I’d go back and look/listen for ravens. At least try to get his antlers out, sounds like you made a good shot.

Yea sucks was so excited about it then heart broke after 10 hrs of looking and loosing blood.

A good friend of mine last week arrow’d a 370” bull at 10 feet, they never found it. Talk about heartbreak! Curious how long after the shot you waited to pursue blood?

Over a hr

I feel your pain bro.

Yea thinking ill go up next weekend and hit it hard again. Me and my boys looked at all the water area we could yesterday. Walked the heavy cover spaced as far as we could so we could k8nd of see eachother and nothing. We pushed 15miles of walking.
-
Damn, well, maybe he lived? Pretty tough animals!

Pleasure scouring those hill's for that bull with ya . Love being in elk country regardless of what the reason is.
I'm still scratching my head where he went and how he got there..that blood was a kill shot in my experience. Maybe. Just maybe he's still upright. Like nothing happened.
One things for sure...max effort was put forth to find him.

Sorry man......all the texting back and forth after the shot got my blood going for you, i know the feeling of good blood and turns to nothing, its heart breaking. Wish i could have been there helping you than in CO working :bash:

How far from the spot you shot him was that blood?
-
Think in a striaght line about 1200 yards 600ft gain

He is jot showing all the blood that was spilled, we text back and forth and he sent me many more pic of good blood than the one he posted, lots of blood was spilled.....

That bull is dead up there somewhere. I would go to last blood and just start making circles.
-
I have for multiple days. Made it a strong 6-700 yard in the circle and nothing. Ill be back up next weekend looking again.

Every area is different, but I wouldn't wait to long to try and find him with birds. Second and third day after death is the best for finding animals with birds. After that it would be tough because most of the animal will be picked clean from birds, coyotes, bears, cougars, and other small predators. Of course every place is different due to landscape and what predators are around. When we do gutless butchering of deer up on the ranch that I hunt on there is quite a bit of carcass to feed on with the guts still inside of the cavity. After two to three days the carcass is nothing but bones and the birds are gone.

Ive been up 3 and 4 days after the shot and no birds etc.

I think that there was a post about someone shot a bull and found a broad head in the tender loin. I don not remember the title of the post or the location. Might be worth looking into. :dunno:

I'm in contact with demontang and if the bull isn't found beforehand, I'm planning a coordinated search on Wednesday 10/6 (the earliest I'm available, I'm afraid).
If you'll be in the Naches/Rimrock area and want to help, and you're able to track your search patterns on a GPS/phone and provide either a track or an image showing your track, shoot me a DM.
Hopefully it's found before a week from today, but if not, we can at least rule some areas out.

Good luck guys.
We covered some ground..if I had to look again I would keep going up. :twocents:

If you find a dead elk now, likely devoured by scavengers, after the season is closed, is it legal to remove the antlers attached to the skull from the woods?
-
I think it’s ok if you punch your tag on it
Otherwise ??????
-
I feel your pain been there. I hope you can recover the rack
-
Where did you shoot him in the Rimrock unit? And how many points did he have? I found a dead bull last week during muzzy season in the Cowiche unit.
-
Shot you a pm.
