Yea WA says an inch but where ever I have been we went with if you can hang a ring on it it counts as a point, but also depending on the state and age of the hunter (seems a few of us older hunters) eye guards did not count as they are eye guards.
:yeah: We've never counted the eye guards as a point either and like you said jingles we used the "hang a ring on it" deal too concerning a point or not a point but yep, an eye guard is an eye guard so for me thats a dandy 4 by 5 in the picture :tup:

If the deer grew it then it counts in my opinion. Personally I want to be descriptive when talking deer so I'm also calling it a 4x5 with eye guards. Depending on the individual id even go further than that like mtnwalker described.
Na, just call it a 4 by 5 then when someone comes and sees it in person, its a surprise :chuckle:

Its just how we counted points back in the day, if you couldn't hang a ring on it, it wasn't counted and we never counted eye guards , with point restrictions nowadays , do not go by that logic, I repeat, DO NOT GO BY THAT LOGIC. :chuckle:

Count them all, I never understood why eye guards wouldn't count for deer but they do count for elk. Not having grown up hunting I don't have any historical precedence to worry about.Where I hunt elk we don't count eye guards on them either.

4x5 with eyeguards. I like to know what's up top when talking antlers. My buddy would call that a 6x6. I always ask if that is up top or if that is including eyeguards.:yeah:

I might be mistaken. Seems like back in the day, BT and Mule Deer bucks were "named" by the side that had the most points. If it had eyeguards, then that was an additional qualifier. In the case of your buck, if you called it a five point with eyeguards, I'd know that it had at least five points on one side, and eyeguards, which gives a bit more prestige then calling it a 5 by four with eyeguards. Calling it an eleven point just tells me that your hunt Whitetail.

Another vote for 4 by 5 we have never counted eyegaurds on mule deer. But definitely count them on whitetail.:yeah:
