Title: Looking for hunting partner 204
Post by: Bogie85 on October 03, 2021, 03:46:55 PM
Hey There,

I have a special tag for 204 for a second deer tag, I want to go but my hunting partner can’t go due to life getting in the way. The dates that my tag are legal are from October 17-26th. I haven’t put in time off request, because I have been unsure if my hunting buddy would be able to go. Now that it’s a clear sign he can’t, I am on a last ditch effort. I am a newer hunter, I haven’t gotten any big game yet. But I am happy to just have someone there to help me spot and me help them as well.

I can carry a lot, I don’t complain. But just want safety in numbers, I have areas to hunt but just need someone to go with me. Hoping to find someone or a group that wouldn’t mind me being in the mix. Thanks everyone!

I was gonna respond to your other thread but I'll do this one instead:

Honestly, while having company is nice - there's nothing like hunting solo. You hunt on your own terms, when and where you want. You don't have to take someone else's feelings into consideration and likewise, if you feel like having a lazy day you don't have to worry about disappointing someone else. You also don't have to worry about someone dragging you down if you really want to hunt hard.

Theres no reason to worry about "safety in numbers". If we had griz it would be a different story, but we don't.

Another thing to consider - I know you guys have been given spots by people on the forums, before you invite someone else along you might want to check and make sure those folks are okay with you bringing other people along. Some people don't mind, but a lot do, and its bad form to share that kind of info without the blessing of who let you in on it.

Trust me - if I can do it so can you!

edit: Honestly, if I had the time to spare this season I would totally be down to come out even without a tag. It would be cool to explore new country... unfortunately between having a kid in April, and the hunting I've already done and am still gonna do(a week in eastern Montana in November) I just don't have the free time this year.

Agreed on the spot sharing, I wouldn’t share any spots without talking to those that gave me  spots. I have a few other spots that weren’t given to me due to the dang fires I did e scouting a bunch. The only thing I worry about is other hunters possibly shooting me since I don’t know the area or how risky it is in general. I hunt the west side solo regularly but I know the area better.

While some hunters get a bad rap most of the guys in the woods are fairly safe. Just make sure you're wearing more orange than required and you'll be fine. Id at least run a vest and a hat. Make sure to bring some orange of some sort to put on your carcass as well just in case.

That’s not a bad idea, I was thinking of bringing a wagon as well so the animal would never be on my back to make it safer.

Go put in for your vacation time and just do it! Make sure to take lots of pics and post a story afterwards!

OMG
This is a whitetail doe tag correct?
Seriously as i read this thread its like a put on your Orange safe space  :chuckle:
This is sorry if you are super new an easy to fill tag, even with all that has gone on over there this year tag to fill. There is lots of area to “hunt” that is open and has not been impacted. Go find a nice place and sit and wait it out, or take a cup of coffee and drive open roads , if it were not for brakes i could of filled a salvage rage or two this weekend.
Relax. Enjoy some time in the woods and pop a doe staring at you

Thanks man :), I wanted to get out and scout but the smoke and closures kind of made it difficult. Gives me some hope it’s not a complete waste.

I realize I might be further along in my hunting career than you(but not by much!) - I will say that if I had that tag I could go over there and tag out, no scouting, probably within 5 days and I’m probably being generous.

That’s not me bragging on how good of a hunter I am(I have my moments but definitely wouldn’t say I was good) - that’s just a fairly easy to fill tag.

That’s what most people are telling me, I haven’t hunted whitetail yet. But blacktail have been super difficult. I have gotten close but, clearly I am not good lol. 5 years this year and not one big game yet. I have had 2 chances but they were too risky as they were sky lined on one. So i opted to not take the shot.

I plan to go out for as many days as I can take off.

I'm jumping in and hitting 204 with Bogie85. That is unless I have to drop out like Slow Hand due to work. If all else fails I'll be out there at least over a weekend with him. I'll have to blow the dust off my spotting scope. Not much need for it with blacktail. Should be a heck of a trip. We can call it two noobs with guns.

I like the name :), hopefully we get some chance at more then just deer and make it an epic hunt lol. Anything is great, and deer is the main agenda. But looking forward to checking out a new area.
