Title: 7mm Partitions and Accubonds LR
Post by: 10mmg on October 03, 2021, 05:52:00 PM
Hey all I need some help with a load for my dads 7mm Weatherby Mag. My grandfather built the gun in the early 60’s on a Mauser action for a sheep hunt that never happened. Now my dad and I are headed to Wyoming to hunt elk and speed goats.

The issue is this we tried to work up a load of 175 grain accubonds but they are tumbling as I believe the barrel is a 12 twist and won’t stabilize the heavy bullet. So as a result we are looking to a 150, 154, or 160 grain option. We loaded up some old 150 grain bullets but the group was awful. The powder is h4831.

We need to get our hands on a 160 or 154 or similar weight 7mm bullets. We are willing to buy or trade for the 175 grain bullets we will not be using. We have an unopened 50ct box of partitions and 93 rounds of the 175 accubond long range.

Open to ideas for loading and if you have one or more of the weights mentioned we would like to connect. We are in Chelan but Dad is west side bound this week.

Thanks in advance.

If it’s a 1x12 twist stick with 150 grain bullets or less. 150 gr accubonds would be the ticket or a 140 Barnes. You could stick with the 4831 since it is on the faster end. In the off-season I’d look at re-barreling to a faster twist.

Thanks we have shot up to the 154 without issue but we stick to the light stuff.
